I'm fully aware of Afghanistan, Cuba, and Iran and other places before they got destroyed. Iran was likely one of the most westernized and secular countries in the Middle East before we overthrew Mossadegh. Afghanistan became a geopolitical ground zero in the mid to late 1970s before the US (thanks to Zbigniew Brzezinski' influence) and the Soviets tore the place apart.
