I am no basketball genious but at this point in the season your player rotation is pretty well set. Moreover, in many cases your bench gets shorter.

It appears to me that Tennessee's bench is getting stronger and possibly a little deeper. Howell is seeing a few more minutes, as is Childress. Jajuan Smith continues to play well.

I think that it is a testament to Pearl's coaching ability. Our bench is getting more confidence and may see additional minutes as the year progresses.

Your opinions please

Not being able to see many UT bb games, but seing the 2 big games (UTx & UF) it's obvious EVERYONE will learn under Coach Pearl.

Can't wait till he gets some real talent. Good Coaching means so much!

i am no genius either, but if that were the case, and it continues to get better, then that obviously is one of the things that all of us considered a real weakness on this team, for that to get better, would do nothing but improve this team's chances down the line in the SEC tourney and, gasp, the NCAA tourney....

Go Vols.

I agree with you Patrick, our bench is getting stronger and stronger. If our bench would've shown up for the Memphis game, that would've been a win too.

Howell did a great job in the Florida game coming in for CJ. He made good choices and ran the offense. He was ready and it showed.

Childress has his moments. He even knocked down a 3 on the road last night. I think it was Bert who said that shooting the 3 is one of Childress' strong points. I wasn't aware of that. He also took those 2 charges in the UF game along with some other things he's done this year.

Stanley looked MUCH better coming in off the bench. I think that suits him. Maybe he's one of those players that needs to see things before he gets in the game. Regardless, I think that he's the new member of the bench mob. Defense is outstounding, if only he was a consistent shooter. Both Asumnu and Patterson seemed to like their new roles. Patterson had a GREAT game last night.

I would say that Smith has been our best bench player. He really came in and helped in the Texas game. He can shoot when he's on, play defense and hustles.

All in all, I think they're all going to be at a different level by the end of this year. Just in time for the SEC tourney and the NCAA tourney....if we get there. I think we will.

I can't wait until next year either. With Pearl, the good recruits, the foundation of the system and the maturity of all our returning players should result in another satisfying season.

If my memory serves me correctly, Lofton failed to show up that game as did late free throw misses(front end).I like our bench play as well.

we will have a successful season next year in my opinion, but I think it all will start at the PG position. While Crews and Chism will come in and contribute early, I dont think either of them will average 20 a game or anything like that. Watson has been a given there for the last 4 years and once he is gone, the key to the season will be to find a good point guard that will become great, just as Watson has.

If you're talking about the Memphis game, I'm not sure you could accuse Lofton of not showing up.

From our starters, we had......

Lofton had 16 points
Wingate with 11 points
Asumnu with 11 points
Bradshaw with 21 points
Watson with 14 points

our bench only had 8 points combined

Smith had 3 points
Howell had 1 point
Patterson had 4
Childress had none...

So our starters combined for 73 points and our bench only scored 8 in the Memphis game. We were 18-26 from the free throw line. That's not that bad.

Last night our starters combined for 55 and our bench combined for 33 points. Huge difference.

Balanced basketball...sure Lofton and CJ tend to have the higher points per game, but our bench has to be one of the most balanced in the league. Jujuan is playing great basketball. He will be a threat next year.

Looking at the new starting lineup, they are all averaging over, or right at 10 ppg. That could account for about 60 pts (Lofton and Watson are well over 10 ppg). That said, the bench absolutely HAS to show up every night, b/c we don't play good D and have to score 80+ to win...

What's wrong with that? I was pointing out that the bench has been great all season, lest we wouldn't have been able to win the games we have. Smith has been a monster off the bench. Do you think we play GOOD D, and can score 65 and still win?

i do think we can win with less than 65 points. we are just getting stronger as the season goes on.

i guess stfu was a little harsh but i just know how fickle our fans can be and knit-picking the bball team is just a little much for me at this point.

my apologies for being so harsh. i had'nt have my coffee yet. GO VOLS!
