The Big 12 South Breakdown 2010
As always, the South is the strongest half of the Big12 and incase you forgot the happenings of this off-season, they are also the decision makers of the conference. Lets not waste time discussing expansion though. Lets talk about the Red River Shootout winner and overall conference champion.
1.Oklahoma. Boomer Sooner will have a their hands full, but I think this is their year. Its not a popular pick, but its my pick. I think an uninjured Sam Bradford beats Texas last year, and I think a healthy, and now experienced Landry Jones can beat em this year. They return 7 on offense including DeMarco Murray and Ryan Broyles, and they get 6 back on defense. If they avoid injuries they maybe perfect. My pick is (12-0).
2.texas university. Ok, Ill admit it. The schedule is a little tougher this year than last year. They got rid of scheduling a powder puff like Central Florida in October, but they still play Florida Atlantic in November. Not too risky, but what do you expect from Mack? The toughest stretch will be September 18th through October 16th. A lot of folks have them getting beat by Nebraska based on the revenge side of the issue. I dont. I have another loss on their schedule. No Cart. No guitar playing, fishing buddy roommate. No Big 12 title. Pooooooor sips. My pick is (10-2).
3.Texas A&M. Sherman had to get some help over the off-season and he did. He got Tim DeRuyter to come to College Station and he got Von Miller to stay in College Station. Oh, and incase yall missed it, that guy playing QB isnt half bad either. This will be far and away, the most experienced group of players on both sides of the ball that Sherman has coached in his tenure at TAMU. Hes got impact players on both sides. His system has been in place now for a while, and he has his guys playing where he wants them. Dont forget that his offense was pretty good last year (5th in the Nation/ 465.77 yards per game). Now lets see if this new 3-4 defense can stop someone. My pick is (9-3)
4.Texas Tech. Now Tommy Tuberville has tt on his shirt. As much as it pains me to say how much I respect Ears I still cant imagine wishing the best for anything related to the dust bowl college in Lubbock. Fans and students will have little to celebrate under the only tree in Lubbock this fall, but at least it wont be as bad as others. They need to be on alert when UofH comes to town, but other than that, the techies will lose to who they are supposed to, and beat the few teams they should. Its great to see order restored once again. My pick is (7-5)
5.Okie Lite. Now that the Man has a less experienced defense, and the offensive side of the ball lacks the star power he once enjoyed, the Cowboys have fallen down in the South. A six and six season isnt anything to get excited about, but it could be the Baylor game that decides on who goes bowling and who watches games from home during the holidays. November 6th will be important. With this group of inexperienced offensive lineman, Gundy better hope that his only standout Kendall Hunter can do it all by himself. My pick is (6-6).
6.Baylor. Although they are not as bad as their counterpart division loser Colorado, things in Waco depend on the health of too few (Blake Griffin), and the knowledge of a guy that went 4-8 last year (Art Briles). From October 30th till the end of the season, I dont see a single game in which Baylor will be within 10 points of the lead. The problem with Baylor last year was they lost their star. If Griffin stays healthy a .500 season is very possible. The October 23rd game against K-State will be fairly big game for the folks in Waco. My pick is (6-6)
So there it is. Let the debate begin.
