Yep. He threw about 145 innings last year so he’s in a good sweet spot to hit 180 but if we make another deep run it would be nice to let him recoup a couple turns.
 
I know it's a different era, but Cy Young once threw 20 innings in a single game.

That's almost hard to fathom even for back then

People still throw batting practice all day.

Young and some of the greats threw in the 90's. Walter Johnson was in the upper 90s.

I believe they threw so many innings because they just threw mostly fastballs and curves. I'm sure arm injuries were a lot less than today
 
Best "arguments" (they are really exceptions) for the "these pitchers today are wimps" thing are Nolan Ryan and Bob Feller. Feller was clocked in the upper 90s in the late 1940s with Army ordinance radar guns, which had just been invented.

Some guys are just freaks. Pitchers in the 1920s pitched in a manner similar to batting practice than today's max effort, max velocity style on every pitch.
