Vols getting popped by the big boys a lot I see
Maybe they can do the inverse of last year. Have an OK regular season, get into regionals, then get hot after that. Ole Miss won the CWS that way last year. They were clearly the inferior team when we played them in late March. They ended up being the last team standing.

The Basevols burned so brightly last year that it was going to be hard to keep that up all season long.

I’ve not seen much from these guys that tells me they have an “Ole Miss” run in them. And that’s the exception anyway. Most national champs come from the top half of the tournament field, not from the bubble.

What about Ole Miss last year indicated they had that kind of run in them, though? They finished 2 games below .500 in SEC play and weren't even a national seed.

Lol this right here

I’m amazed at how few people understand baseball
I do understand baseball. It's a random sport. I'm just throwing it out there that despite the baseball forum, where many want to jump off a cliff, Tennessee could still make noise in the postseason. Just like how this time last year everybody thought they were a lock to win the CWS, or at least make it, and didn't.

They were ranked #1 at points though and picked to finish in the top half of the league. They didn't exactly come from nowhere. Just played below expectations until they didnt.

Yeah, and they were also unranked for the last month and a half of the regular season based on how they actually played, and got bounced early in the SECT. Tennessee was a top 5 team until a few weeks ago. If we got hot, we wouldn't exactly be coming out of nowhere either, even though there isn't really anything on its face that says we have that time of run in us.

I agree with you completely. We have 3 really good starting pitchers and that bodes really well for postseason chances. People jumping off ledges over baseball in Feb, March, and early April have never played in those months ha. Also, our best team OAT got thumped by an average noter damn. Baseball is hard.

Oh. I misinterpreted what you were saying. My bad

Biggest issue for the Vols right now is that the weekend starters, who were incredible last year, are just kind of pretty good overall this year. Beam, Dollander, and Burns are allowing 9.5, 7.7, and 8.1 H/9 after allowing 5.9, 5.7, and 7.3 H/9 last year. And having "pretty good" starting pitching against an SEC schedule puts you where the Vols are currently sitting.

What's funny is that the K rates for each are actually up.

Hopefully it means some positive regression is coming their way.

If Tennessee can repeat as SEC Tournament Champions and make a deep College World Series run, Vitello and his staff will have done their best coaching performance yet at Tennessee.
