The Braves Thread

Is that mostly because of the presence of the Redbirds? It isn't like St Louis is close to Memphis.
I’ve never really understood it. Arkansas is staunchly redbird country. St Louis is a bit closer than ATL but it’s not like it’s around the corner.

Cards put redbirds here for proximity and existing fan base not to “create one.” Always been this way.

I’ve read before (might not be remembering all the details correctly) that you could live in Iowa (with no professional baseball team) yet be blacked out of six different markets.
Yes

Because you can watch all six baseball teams via regional sports networks who pay large sums of money to broadcast professional baseball.

Yes we went to season opener and loved it. Hoping to see another soon. Expensive game for me...as ended up getting him a hat, jersey, mini bat, cards, etc etc etc....lol Dad was a sucka.

We also got him a D-Bat membership.

Looks like all Braves games for MLB.tv are blacked out in this area...unless I am missing something. You have to have access to bally sports to watch. I have sling and the sports package was really hoping we could watch them there through the MLB channel.
At this point, DirecTV Stream is the only streaming option for Bally Sports left standing.

I grew up watching baseball on broadcast TV, and later on TBS....and Bally isn't even available on my cable service. This is how you drastically reduce viewership and fanbase. it's stupid.

I mean $20/month for six months to watch essentially 150 Braves games comes out to less than a $1 per game. I get it, baseball needs to be a better job providing access and I bet that is going to happen very soon. But $20/month to watch your sons favorite team is pretty fair IMO

tell me how I can get it for 20 a month... I'd be good with that. That was my essential original question. I couldn't find a way cheaper then closer to a hundred a month, and figured there had to be a better way. That is reasonable. It's not his favorite team yet! lol he doesn't even know the braves, right now his favorite team is the Chattanooga Lookouts. ;)

Watching the Braves is one of the few things that's gotten more difficult over the years. The TBS days were so easy; especially if you were traveling. No matter where you were, you never had to guess whether the Braves game would be on.

It’s in my original response to you. You use to be able to get a direct ballys streaming subscription for $20/month. Not sure if that’s still an option but I assume that’s what Z is also referencing.

That was the original plan, but it's only available in certain markets. Detroit, Florida . . . maybe Milwaukee.

It's mind boggling how quickly that deal went bad.
Started with the Fox sell to Disney. Gov’t bailed Disney out by forcing them to sell. Got even worse on the Diamond/Bally’s deal. Streaming bubble + valuation bubble + Bally’s not being ready to launch a competitive product + overplaying their hand in every negotiation/pricing = quick disaster

Well I am trying to find it. I see a bally app but it requires you enter a code for a cable provider that has bally, and again that's a 80-90 a months or more package from what I can see....

Make Sure You Get All the Games on Bally Sports

Input your zip code and it will tell you if you’re eligible

GA said not available in all areas so you may be SOL without cable.

Guess who became a life long Braves fan because a 3 year old was in San Diego and his mom was a Braves fan and they got to watch the Braves at 4 every day?

Yep . . . That and Ted Turner selling to AOL/Time-Warner in the late 90s started the corporate age of the Braves.

It's unbelievable how clunky the Bally's app is. It's really obvious they got caught with their pants down and tried to rush something when they figured out that they overpaid and that the streaming services weren't going to bail them out with high carriage fees.

"Currently, the least expensive way to stream Bally Sports RSNs is with a subscription to DIRECTV STREAM's Choice Plan ($89.99 a month). "

This is what I am seeing, if there is a better way please school me. I'd be happy at a $20-$30 a month deal.
That's the only way to go if you're streaming . . . ditch your Sling TV and use DTV Stream. I've had DirecTV Stream before. It's actually really easy to use.

Simple as that.

I hope MLB is prepared to make right but not exactly optimistic on that front. They’ll gain significant goodwill by dropping the blackouts though.

We cut the cord for a reason. I don't want to pay that much a month for a service I'd hardly ever use. We hardly watch TV. Even sling I only usually keep on during SEC football season. (I do nto even like Sling honestly, but at least it's easy and cheap) for a hundred bucks I could pay for three lessons for him with a personal coach, or see three lookouts games.....and he'd likely prefer both of those to a team he hardly has even heard of. I'm telling you guys, most of his classmates don't even know the Braves....it seems strange especially in Chattanooga area, but that is the current state of things thanks to this subscription nonsense. It's killing baseball for a generation. I grew up watching baseball every day as a kid...it was easy..TBS and WGN... For people who pay a 100-200 cable bill without batting an eye.....maybe you don't get this... But that's just a monthly drain better spent elsewhere for us.

I will say this. As a Detroit sports fan, it’s easier than ever to watch my teams. My dad gets mlb.tv for free with his T-Mobile sub. ESPN+ is $10/month for every NHL game. League Pass I split with my brother and dad. And then I use a $15/month VPN for Lions games. It’s a lot easier than say if this was 2003.
