The Braves Thread

Spencer with 13 tonight, a career high of 16.
I know it's never gonna happen but I also hope he makes a run at Kerry Woods 21 strikeouts one day.

So I been walkabout on baseball for a few years, between politics and not having any players that just got me excited. I just boycotted all of it MLB, NFL...etc. The reason I first took a look back again was my son (12) is just now discovering and getting into baseball. I was an avid fan during the TBS era growing up, and baseball cards were what I ate, and dreamed about. The politics that came out for awhile there just left a bitter taste in my mouth, and I stopped watching some years back. Listen I loved the Braves when they were BAD, I remember when Braves stars were the likes of Phil Niekro and Dale Murphey, and the most popular bumper sticker was "Go Braves and take the Falcons with you". (I always liked Phil though) So I have been a Braves fan all my life, but because of the political BS I just had enough, and boycotted it all. But then I happen to catch a Spencer Strider highlights, and it was instant. This guy looks like he just walked off a 1890's tobacco card. Like Kid Nichols or Tim Keefe came out of a time machine and is throwing Nolan level heat, with evil accuracy. I mean he just throwing plain nasty. He's instantly my favorite since Smoltz....and it's just the way he carries himself beyond his assassin like pitch abilities. Also again that stash and soul patch, I dunno whose idea it was after the 2022 season, but I'm loving the 1890's old school as it gets baseball feel....it's a good look. I think this guy is gonna be a superstar up there with the big three. The Braves have something special here. He just reminds me of everything good about baseball I have missed.

This is one of the the very few non political threads so I’m hesitant to even ask, but what political statement has baseball made? Or are you talking about sports/life in general?

Kneeling during the anthem. Still of the opinion everyone involved should have been fired. Or at the very least public apologies. The ASG crap was just a cherry on top to see how much corporate sports is ungrateful to this country. I am still very disappointed in the generations that tolerate this crap. Still to naïve to understand what they have lost.
