The hate Nico crowd is really, really funny. It’s laughable how fans react to nothing but the last thing they saw and build a narrative. Every team that loses in the playoff is a fraud. Nico can’t play. Heupel can’t win big games.
No nuance ever.
I had the Skycast on so I could see downfield. He missed some open receivers but it was shocking how rarely our WRs were running open. The hate Nico crowd is really, really funny.
This fanbase would have given up on Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, Jaylon Daniels, Drew Lock, etc. the list goes on. Hell, they’d have given up on Peyton freaking Manning. It’s almost like it’s difficult to play QB as a freshman.
I know all that and you are right...but it still sucks lolBut that is kind of the story of Tennessee's program historically. We're a very good, but not elite program all-time. That is a highly selective category; I also would not put schools like UGA or Penn St in it. I don't think we are going to be the Penn St of the SEC...I think we are the Penn St of the SEC and have been for a long time.
Tennessee has had long periods of time in its history, other than the 2008-21 era, where we would not have even sniffed a 12-team playoff most years. We would have made a 12-team playoff just once from 1953-1964. We would not have made a single one from 1973-1984. Johnny, who a ton of our fans think was an awesome coach, would have "definitely" made a 12-team playoff just once, in 1989 (it's hard to say because of the ties in 1985 and 1990, would have been on the bubble in 1991). We've only had 2 coaches who would have consistently made them - Neyland and Fulmer (and Bill Battle if you consider 1970-72 to be a long enough period of time). And all of Fulmer's would have been 2001 and before.
Burrow is a great example. People forget how highly touted of a transfer he was, and there was nothing about his play in 2018 that indicated he was capable of what he did in 2019. I remember hearing LSU fans say stuff like "He couldn't even get on the field at Ohio St, and they're overrated - why did they think he could play in the SEC?"The hate Nico crowd is really, really funny.

That's kind of a ridiculous statement if you're talking CBB because of the postseason format.Nope.
Like the same thing I say about Barnes. I want to see a title. The regular season BS means nothing.
Hence my hatred of Barnes. That's kind of a ridiculous statement if you're talking CBB because of the postseason format.
Dean freaking Smith won "only" 2 NCAATs, and it was in an era when the sport wasn't all that deep and the tournament was much smaller. He made it to 6 FFs before he finally broke through and won his first title. You would have been on here calling for him to be fired.
He had Thornton wide open over the middle on the first drive but didn't keep his eyes downfield when the pocket came in a little bit. That was an issue all year for him.I had the Skycast on so I could see downfield. He missed some open receivers but it was shocking how rarely our WRs were running open.
He definitely had a Crompton-like look on several throws especially when the pocket got dirty. He didn’t have a lot of help, but he’s got to be better and stand in the pocket with his eyes up and/or get it out on time.Yeah, but short hopping the only player on an entire side of a field from a few yards away doesn’t do him any favors.
It's not just about titles. It's about getting your team there. Coach K and Roy are good because they consistently made deep runs. Bill self is another(of the more recent groups)lmao
In your opinion, how many titles should a great CBB coach be able to win in a decade? 8? Is John Wooden the only good CBB coach who has ever lived, and even he sucked from 1948-63?
Roy and Self are not as good of examples as you think they are, by your definitions. It's not just about titles. It's about getting your team there. Coach K and Roy are good because they consistently made deep runs. Bill self is another(of the more recent groups)
Even if they don't win it good coaches consistently get to the EE and FF
Recency bias. I look at a career.Roy and Self are not as good of examples as you think they are, by your definitions.
During his last 8 NCAATs at UNC, Roy didn't make it out of the first weekend 4 times. During the last 10 NCAATs at Kansas, Self hasn't made it out of the first weekend 6 times, including 4 out of the last 5.
