not looking great for Matthews, it appears.
AP has insinuated he got tied in all the social media misinformation. If that’s the reason, he was always going to find a reason to leave.
Playing for the love of the game has, by and large, has been gone since being a good college player meant that you had a chance of making a bunch of money playing professional football. That's been the case since probably the 1950s. Before then, being a good professional player meant that you made something like a doctor or lawyer's salary, or maybe even less. Playing football was something to do while in college, and you were probably going to get a "real job" after.NIL and the transfer portal has made not really care if any player leaves. Great talent or not. I'll cheer for the ones on the roster game 1 next year
I miss the days when the players loved playing for UT. Those days have been gone probably longer than I realize.
I’m sure they still love playing for UT, but it’s gotta make sense for them financially. I love what I do but I wouldn’t do it I couldn’t make money doing it.NIL and the transfer portal has made not really care if any player leaves. Great talent or not. My thoughts as wellI’m sure they still love playing for UT, but it’s gotta make sense for them financially. I love what I do but I wouldn’t do it I couldn’t make money doing it.
I work with three former Vandy football players. One was a highly touted recruit that could have gone anywhere in the country and he JUST missed the NIL window. He would have gotten $700,000+ out of high school. That would have been a life changing head start for a guy that never had a chance at the NFL.
I've always thought that NIL impacts the calculus of a decent or lower-level recruit than a 5-star.I’m sure they still love playing for UT, but it’s gotta make sense for them financially. I love what I do but I wouldn’t do it I couldn’t make money doing it.
