Wouldn't it be even worse to do it in the middle of the season? Seems like it would disrupt the schedule even more with all the travel time. At least doing it the way they do now, you get it out of the way and it feels like a normal Opening Day with the week between the Japan game and your US opener.

I get that. That's why they should either shorten the schedule, or shorten ST to allow or more days during the season. It would work great to piggy back these games with the AS break. Give each team an extra day for travel coming and going, and then give them a couple of home game sets when they return from Japan.
