Nooga article just to remind you of how hard being a Volunteer is now. It ranks or bizarre losses since the Dooley era began, including basketball. I don't know what caused the curse, but it's here. Hopefully we have pleased the sports gods enough to have them lift it.

Our curse is because we aren't willing to pay the money necessary to get a proven coach. We want to go bargain hunting and hire the coach from this years Cinderilla team.

Buzz had Tulsa in the NCAA and made a run to the Sweet 16, so we hired him. Pearl had his Milwaukee team in the NCAA and playing well, so we hired him.
Martin had Missouri State in the tourney, so we hired him.

Tennessee is NOT going to be dedicated to a winning mens basketball program on a yearly basis. Don't put your emotions or hopes in to getting a winning program. You will be disappointed!!!! The administration is not dedicated to having a winning program. Too much money needed in order to make that happen....

Cuonzo didn't have Missouri State in the tourney FYITIFWIWJIMHO.

But those accusations aren't necessarily true for football. I think Dooley was a top option given how close to signing day we were (although an interim coach ultimately would have been the right decision). And Kiffin with staff certainly weren't on the cheap. And many on Volnation will argue that had Kiffin stayed, we'd be a top program competing for the crystal.

It's a horrible curse, and I can't imagine how we could have done something horrible enough to deserve it.

Buzz did not reach the Sweet 16 at Tulsa. That's what Bruce did at UWM.
Buzz won the NIT at Tulsa.

Y'all stop this curse talk. Poor coaching will plague any team. One great coach once said,"it's funny how the harder we work the luckier we get"! A couple of poor coaching jobs, lesser players, and a lousy rule does not equal a curse. The only one that doesn't fit into that category was pigues fumble. The kid was forgiven immediately in my book. He was trying to make a great effort and ended up with a poor result.

Yes, but we've had poor coaching, very unfortunate events, poor administration, horrible luck, etc.

We lost the greatest college basketball coach of all time, Bruce lied, killing our men's basketball program, Kiffin bolted in the Middle of the night putting us behind the 8 ball in recruiting and causing a catastrophic level of attrition (which we are finally just now fixing 4 years later), Todd Raleigh was hired, our swim team has had to deal with controversy, and I'm sure that's not all. It seems like something happened with the track team too.

AND we lost to Kentucky in football.

Already posted this in the bball forum:

Will whoever it is that has been breaking mirrors and killing kittens, leprechauns, and anything else they can think of to bring us bad luck over the past 5 or so years please for the love of god stop.

We will suck for several more years in all major sports.

Several? We should be competitive again in football by 2015. The baseball team is ranked for the first time in 6 years. Women's basketball is still pretty good. And men's basketball is a Bruce Pearl hire away from being a ranked team again.

It's 'The Curse of Erik Ainge'...

His INT in the '07 SECCG to seal the deal for LSU signified the beginning of the curse.

OR 'The Dave Clawson Curse'...

I'll let you guys decide.

Personally, although it's not very popular, I call it the Fulmer curse. Although that logic is flawed because we did the same thing to Majors and didn't suffer because of it.
