It makes me tremendously sad that we only get this legend for one year but... you have to wonder if him transferring here will pay dividends with landing the highest ranked transfer(s) each year. Knecht is becoming a household name at UT. Coach Barnes could already boast his track record of getting guys he recruited to the league, but now will be able to show that he can even get transfers there too. I know Knecht was scoring some major points last year, but so many (even our fans), wondered if he could perform the same at the highest level in college basketball. He CAN. Even better, because he's shooting the best percentages in his career! I saw so many fans (Vols fans even) say that Barnes would ruin his offensive ability and would coach it out of him on Twitter this offseason. They were wrong.

The Dalton Knecht Effect has been huge this year for our offense... I think it'll continue down the road in recruiting as well.

Great post! We are truly blessed to be able to watch this guy play basketball for The University of Tennessee. He’s remarkably gifted and watching him soar through the air like an eagle is pure basketball artistry.

ESPN has a love affair with Mark Sears and Wade Taylor. As some of you saw last night, Taylor scored 41 points in a losing effort. A quick glance at the box score and many would assume Taylor was the best player last night. He went 13-32, 5-14 from three, and 10-13 from the FT line. Dalton did his scoring within the framework of 23 shots. That performance last night was truly generational. He scores exceptionally well from all 3 levels and still plays within the team concept.

I said all that to say that Sears and Taylor will have their supporters, but looking below surface level, Knecht is special. I hope we realize what we have because it doesn’t last long. Enjoy the rest of the season, ladies and gents.

It helps to have a number of unselfish high-character guys already on the team that are willing to look for Knecht and make him the centerpiece of the offense. And Knecht doesn't appear to have a selfish bone in his body either. He doesn't force his scoring to the detriment of the team. The vast majority of it comes within the flow of the offense. Great things can be achieved by teams when no one cares who gets the credit.

Who at ESPN? Several times last night, Jimmy Dykes said Knecht was easily the best in the SEC. Jimmy Dykes was announcing in ESPN. SMDH

Several different broadcasters within the ESPN framework over the course of the season, Dykes included. I’m not saying they weren’t hyping Dalton. I’m saying up until this Dalton uptick, the two guys hyped the most were Sears and Taylor.

The real beauty of Dalton is that when the offense gets in a quagmire, we can just run a high screen where he steps back and gets a clean look from a couple feet behind the 3p line. He's big and skilled enough that it's pretty much there whenever we need it. Judging by the end of the Miss St game, Barnes hasn't figured this out yet.

You should send him a letter pronto

I'm not saying this kid is better than Lofton or Williams (although he might be when all is said and done), but he is the most effective all-around offensive player we've had since Allan Houston.
I agree. Lofton was a better shooter, but like you said not the better all-around offensive player.

We haven't had a lot of guys like DK that can drive to the basketball and also be a lethal shooter that can create his own shot.

Jordy Mac, JRich, Chandler, and Springer could drive to the basket, but were somewhat streaky shooters. So I'd put DK ahead of all of them.

Grant it's hard to compare because he was a post player.

I think DK's putting himself a level above Admiral. I didn't see Houston while he was here so I can't speak to him.

But DK's the best offensive player since Admiral (his senior season). He's having the sort of season Kevin Punter had his last year and it's fun to watch.

DK though has size and that "mamba" mentality that Kobe made famous.

I noticed Taylor put up big numbers 41 in that L to Arkansas but did I see that right he took 32 shots.13 baskets & 10 of 13 FTs
The 32 shots & the L kind of kills the moment IMO % wise could be hurting the team

He figured it out at the end of the UGA game we were @ to lose. Did you see that?

I think Knecht's performance this season will help Barnes land more high scoring transfer options in the future.
