The Definition of Wishful Thinking

wishful thinking-verb
Interpreting matters as one would like them to be, as opposed to what they really are. For example, Matthew wanted to be a basketball player, but with his height that was wishful thinking. This term comes from Freudian psychology of the mid-1920s and soon began to be used more loosely.

It's actually a gerund which makes it a noun . . . but who's counting?

It could also be a participle and thus act as an adjective, as in, "The wishful thinking Michigan fans hope UCLA wins." However, it is probably most commonly used as a gerund and therefore function as a noun, as in, "Michigan hopes UCLA wins, but that is just wishful thinking."

Doing a quick scan, it is no accident that Florida is second in the wishful thinking category, but still vote 57% for USC win.

Indeed . . . but still most definitely not a verb.

It won't be wishful thinking if the Bruins actually man up and play some ball....they have nothing to lose so why not go all out? Then again, I really don't want Florida in the NC game

It's a win-win... USC is going if they win, Michigan is going if USC loses.

Either way, Florida loses. :rock2:

Do you really think that they would put Michigan back in the title game so they could get beat by Ohio State again? I'm not being a smart aleck, I was just wondering?

Because IMO if Florida wins tonight and USC chokes up and loses I think Florida would jump Michigan simply because they won the Conference Championship game and beat a top 10 team to do it....I don't know that Michigan would jump ahead of Florida if Florida wins....Who knows though? I guess we'll find out tomorrow

Oh yeah, it'd happen. Sucks for Florida and anyone else, but Michigan would still be ahead of them in all of the polls.

Don't think it'll happen, but it would.

I'm not saying it won't happen but I for one would be royally pissed if there was a rematch for the National Championship.....I don't want to see it again, and IMO that would be unfair to Ohio State to have to beat the same team twice.....But who knows? If something happens and USC does choke and get beat tonight and Florida ever so slightly noses out Michigan for the #2 spot, I think they will get blown out

Eh, I was really against the rematch possibility at one time, but I don't care one way or the other now. You could make a case for either team, I suppose.

Yeah, Michigan just lost to the #1 team in the country and Florida lost to....I think they were like 10th at the time but IMO they've had a more grueling schedule than Michigan has......You really could make a decent case for each team though

I doubt it. Michigan and USC are too far ahead in the BCS... I doubt Florida could jump both.

Trojans lost today and with Florida winning by 10 points tonight in the Conference championship game, it could happen......Guess we'll have to wait and see tomorrow around 4 o clock
