Have to say I’m liking the new playoff format. I think 12 is a good number for including quality teams without going overboard. There may be some sketchy teams that get byes based on their conference, but it’s really difficult to predict the quality of conferences with so few out of conference matchups. There could be some blowouts in the playoffs, but there could be some surprises as well!

I really don’t understand why many people were against expansion, all the arguments (season games would be less meaningful?) seemed silly. Especially for a school like Tennessee that was always on the outside!

Plus, this should (and arguably already has) increase parity because athletes know they can commit to more than the same ole 4-5 teams and have a shot at a title. We’ll see how it plays out.

I’m not against expansion. It’s just the format that frustrates most people, including myself. I don’t think a team ranked 16th or 17th should get in ahead of the 4 or 5 teams they are ranked behind (the selection committee’s own rankings). And I don’t think the 11th or 12th ranked team should leap frog the 7 or 8 teams ranked ahead of them and bump a team out. It should strictly be the top 12 (or 14 or 16 whenever they decide to expand again). I would feel the same way if A&M goes on a magical run to win the SEC. They would probably be ranked in the top 12 at that point but they don't deserve to be gifted a first round bye just because they won the SEC.

Look at basketball and baseball. Just because you win your conference doesn’t mean you automatically get a 1 seed. Sure, you get an automatic bid but you aren’t jumping up the seed list like that. And yes I realize there are more teams in those tournaments but the CFP should still operate similarly where in baseball the top 16 teams of a 64 team tournament get home field regardless of conference championship.

Yeah, I hear you, but the key is to get in, and I think teams have less of an argument when they end up #12. But we’ll see how it goes.

College Football Playoff 2024 - Week 14.png

Here is the current bracket projection.
Look at the path for Tennessee or UGA and then look at where Boise State is seeded. Either UGA or Tenn won't make it as far as Boise State is right now. THAT'S the part people are upset about.

FYI, Boise State is ranked 27th in the computer generated football power index.

Luckily, there is another weekend of football that might shake up the current Bracket Projection.

Boise State might as well be called the Boise State Horned Frogs, because

Well these two programs do hate each other. It’s more one sided from A&M’s side and the game hasn’t been played in over a decade so I get the excitement. Still wouldn’t pay that much though lol
I could not pay $2,000 for my wife and I to attend a game, that I could sit at home and watch in high definition, with my beer, etc. I’m cheap.

I think in another two years, there will be 16 teams and they'll get rid of the bye week for the top 4 spots because the NCAA is missing out on a lot of revenue.

Boise might not even win their conference championship game.
