I would have given it to Jason Schmidt. Dodgers finished 16 games behind the Giants. Nobody should be winning the Cy Young or MVP whenever their team can’t even make the playoffs. If you are that great then you should be leading your team to the postseason. There was no dominating starting pitcher in N.L. in 2003 that's why Gagne won the CY Young Award
55/55 on save opportunities
1.20 era
2-3 record
137 strikeouts in 82 1/3 innings pitched with only 20 walks.
Of course as a Braves Fan you believe Russ Ortiz with a 21-7 record and that great 3.81 era should've won the award..
The reason Smoltz didn't win CY Young as a closer in 2002 was
Randy Johnson 24-5 record with over 300 strikeouts and led league in ERA.
Kansas City dead last in A.L. Central in 2009 Zach Greinke won CY Young.I would have given it to Jason Schmidt. Dodgers finished 16 games behind the Giants. Nobody should be winning the Cy Young or MVP whenever their team can’t even make the playoffs. If you are that great then you should be leading your team to the postseason.
I look at individual baseball awards a little differently.I would have given it to Jason Schmidt. Dodgers finished 16 games behind the Giants. Nobody should be winning the Cy Young or MVP whenever their team can’t even make the playoffs. If you are that great then you should be leading your team to the postseason.
