As we find ourselves nearly 1/4 through the regular season (and having played 3 'real games'), we can finally organize some opinions out of our observations and analyze some statistics with some reliance. 'Some' being the key word.

I think we almost universally agree that Spencer and Coop have been elite performers so far. Whitehorn, Spearman, & Latham have been really good, with Whitehorn maybe touching into that elite category.

So enough of that, let me present to you "The Enigmas": Spear, Puckett, and Tess. These 3 have played close to the same amount of minutes. Which of these 3 did you expect to produce the most in this new system? Which one has produced the most? Did that surprise you? How do you expect each of their seasons to play out from here?

All 3 are vital to the teams success so far and will be moving forward.. Spear's production will increase and Puckett will give you solid minutes and leadership!

Spear had some sort of minor leg injury so I’m wondering if that is limiting her in practice. Sounded like maybe the same issue she had last season.

Darby has done exactly what we need her to imo. Puckett is really the only one I don’t think has a good excuse for how poor her play is. Even on close buckets she has no accuracy.

Went from Sara Buckets to Sara NO Buckets.

Expecting Spear to pick it up big time by SEC play. She will have a game where she makes 5 to 7 threes more than one more than likely. Puckett can do nothing but go up cause she is all the way down on offense. Tess just needs to keep what she is doing she has performed very well thus far.

Honestly, in my opinion, Tess has been the best candidate that has produced in this system and I would have never guessed that prior!!

Tess has not been a liability on defense, and of course, her high arching 3 has always been her weapon of choice! But to see her actually move her feet on defense and keep smaller guards in front, shows her growth and improvement out of the 3 mentioned.

I’m not sure why Sara is having a hard time offensively, but she’s still also slow on Defense… Jewel needs more confidence in my opinion and needs to trust her shot more!

I do really think Jewel is bothered by whatever minor injury she has right now. Would explain why she was getting blown by like she was standing still too. Seems under confident moving laterally at the moment.

Hopefully she’s 100% by SEC play and starts knocking them down. I have faith she’ll come around.

If she and Sara both click into gear this is an especially dangerous team.

I love Jewel but that's always been a problem for her. W scouts say she's a little short and a little slow.

Sara's rebounding and assist numbers look really good.

I think our best hope this year is a conglomeration of the enigma. They'll all contribute as they can and hopefully will trade off having good shooting games enough to get us by until help gets here in the next recruiting class.

I see your point. Although, I don’t think either of these players are enigmas.
The talent and athleticism surrounding Spear, Puckett, and Darby is simply as good as they’ve ever played with and has led to a deeper rotation with several really good options.
The game announcers in the Iowa game on the big stage in the WomensChampsClassic at Barclays Center kept saying this in a major televised game in front of a packed house.
A few casual fans tend to misrepresent the overall talent of this team because of recent years which on paper didn’t meet expectations.
Next years team or potential future teams will have to meet the standard of this group when it’s all said and done because this team has not even come close to reaching its peak which is remarkable.
The playmakers of any team will have the ball in their hands and on this team Spencer, Spearman, Cooper, Whitehorn, Boyd, and Latham are the playmakers.
That’s as deep as you’ll see in the SEC and it has caused the experienced players Spear, Puckett, Darby, and I’ll add Hollingshead to the list that returned to play under Coach Caldwell to adjust while learning a new system.
I expect Spear to produce the most and she plays better when she can facilitate as a ball handler and as stated that position is top heavy. She has to learn how to play off of the playmakers in this system.
Darby has produced the most. As a leader, she and Spencer organized some sets on offense against Iowa late in the game that I noticed during the replay that were outstanding. We’ll see more from Puckett and Hollingshead. I’m proud of both for being so unselfish and putting in the work to compete on this level. The stats will come.
GBO!
