Not too thrilled with the path David Gordon Green is going down, making horror sequels. He is better than that.

Honestly, David Gordon Green is what gives me huge pause with this movie. He bungled the Halloween sequels he just did. And this trailer didn’t make me feel any better. But, I will definitely still be in the theater to give it a chance.

Yeah I just don't think horror is his wheelhouse but I guess Blum thinks he is the man to do it.

The original has some of the best set atmospheric tone in this genres history, if you ask me. It just can’t be matched by todays tech. The practical effects and gritty look just sell it. This trailer is too polished or something. Just makes it look like another Hollywood flick. The eyes also do not look intimidating, they look fake. The original had some seriously piercing eyes on Reagan.

I also hate the fake, mechanical sounding dual voice that you hear in the trailer as the little girl is walking down the aisle in the church. Feels like this is going to try and rely on that kind of crap and cheap jump scares. I did appreciate the nod to the original exorcist trailer at the end though, with all the black and white flash scenes.

I found the original exorcist not very scary although Friedkin did a great job creating the atmosphere. I find the Shining far creepier.

Yeah I forgot to mention the voice. I hate the current “standard” demonic voice everyone uses lol. I saw the original at 6 years old. My mom did tell me not to watch it, to be fair. I was afraid to sleep for months. It cemented it for me. Even as an adult it gives me the creeps if I am home alone at night. During the day not so much.

A little off topic, but the exorcist is getting a 4k release in September for its anniversary. I pre-ordered the steel book from Best Buy, looks great.

So what did you think of Believer? I thought it was mediocre. I’ve certainly seen worse but it’s pretty unremarkable. I enjoyed Evil Dead Rise far more.
