Anyone else see the Experts on ESPN U say Martin was not a good hire for TN, he is a GREAT hire.
Also not a good floor coach a GREAT floor coach.
Give him 2 years to straighten out the mess and TN fans will fall in love with this hire.
Their words not mine.

Where's the link?

The 'experts' always speak highly of a minority hire. Remember Sylvester Croom and Sidney Lowe - they were deemed great hires by the 'experts', too. They always gush uncontrollably about such a hire whether the university did it voluntarily or was pressured into making the hire.

For a 'great' hire, Cuonzo certainly hasn't gotten things off with a bang. So far, he's failed to retain Chris (VFL) Jones and Kevin Ware and he hasn't yet made any impressive staffing hires. So, I don't see any impending greatness yet. He did a great job at MO State, but the Missouri Valley Conference ain't the SEC. And you can't beat Calipari, Donovan, and Stallings without landing at least a few great recruits.

"I was very disappointed," Jones said. "If I'm his top recruit and everybody is relying on me, he didn't take out the time to come and see me. I just feel like, well, he put me on hold. So at this point I just want my release. He just made it easier for me."

Jones was one of two top-60 2011 prospects signed by former Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl. The other, 6-4 guard Kevin Ware of Conyers, Ga., was granted his release by Tennessee on Thursday. Ware told the Knoxville News Sentinel that Martin called him as well, but that they didn't meet in person.

"At this point, I want the same thing he got. I want my release too," said Jones, adding he and Melrose coach Jermaine Johnson have been unsuccessful in attempts this week to contact Martin and Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton.

I don't any justification to make me feel better. It's a low profile hire with some good potential. We will see if Martin can win some games.

I thought Jones changed his mind on asking out of his LOI and CCM was meeting with Ware to begin re-recruitment? When you ask people not to jump to conclusions, its better to avoid doing so yourself. Once Ware and Jones sign LOI's with other schools, then CCM has failed to retain them - he's been on board less than a week. Give him time.

No link. It was the first segment of Tournament Edition on TV.
Did find a good one on one with Chris Dortsh this morning on Coaching and recruiting philosophy.

I'm not saying that Cuonzo won't eventually achieve greatness. I'm just saying that I won't be swayed by the opinion of pundits. They get it wrong much more often than they get it right. From a realistic perspective, the jury's still out on our new hire. Like a lot of other Vol fans, I'm cautiously optimistic, but my caution outweighs my optimism at this early stage.

Would he have been a low profile hire had Mizzou, or Purdue hired him?

I like the hire...but I still am not sold completely... I think it's a nice double and not the homerun hire we all wanted, but I guess that is to be expected given the situation. I will still root him on though!

Mike Hamilton once again rushed to make a hire. I am not sure that I really believe UT offered the coach at Xavier 2mil per year to come. This was just a smoke screen put out by Hamilton to justify hiring Martin. I believe that this is a bad hire. I hope that i am wrong 100 times over. The biggest problem is the majority of UT fans disapprove of the job Hamilton is doing and want him replaced. How can you get behind Coach Martin when you have no faith in the man who conducted the search and hired him. Fire Mike Hamilton now.

I feel sorry for the students that will have to endure 4 to 5 bad seasons before the inevitable occurs.

I feel sorry for myself for having to read all your negavol posts since this hire. You people are ridiculous.

I think the only thing he is lacking is a high energy personality to make the fans excited. Once he starts winning, the arena will be full again though.

Jones jus needs to stop bein a baby and man up.......... The man jus got the job he has a lot on his plate and has to get a staff together while moving his family. ....... The man called u and said he would meet after the Final Four if u wanna explore other options jus ask out of the LOI and let Martin still recruit u if u think u stil wanna be a VOL.....
