The Fans Quit! again!

I guess the fans looks at it as if the team gives 110% like they did with Ga & USCe they hang around and give 110% but when the team quits like they did against AU then the fans needs to stick around and continue to give 110% ?

you are saying the team quit ok whatever, so if your co worker quits I guess you will do the same thing.

I am talking more long term then one game, Jackson, Malone are 3 or 4 year players, Lamin is 2 years.

I will put it like this if you invest in a mutual fund and in 3 weeks the funds price has dropped $1.00 dollar do you sell? even though historically on average stocks rise 12% percent a year. A smart investor buys more shares of the mutual fund at a lower cost and the others sell.

To sum that analogy up A lot of people come to the game but when the game went south a lot of people of left early with what could have been the future of our football team in the stands.

I hope CBJ and company can sell these kids to come to Tennessee but as fans we should have done our part to try and help.

Negavol you can call it what you wish. I happen to believe the glass is "half full" and "rising to the top." This team, with the depth and talent, is doing about what I expected. What I didn't expect was how good Auburn and Missouri would be this year. My hat is off to these two programs as they have exceeded expectations.

Some of you guys who think you know how to turn around programs in one year need to go into coaching! You guys have more football knowledge than Majors or Saban. What I really think it shows your football ignorance!
Seems hypocritical to commend AU & UM for exceeding expectations and then call out people who are disappointed that our team cannot do the same.

None of you get to tell anyone else how to be a fan! Were you issued some kind of fan bible when you decided to pull for UT? Fans did their part when they showed up to watch this team after years of misery being displayed on the field.

If you have some kind of fan ten commandments, post them up. Otherwise, do your part your way and stfu about everyone else who shows up to see the games.

It's funny, each counterpoint you addressed with blah, blah, blah is pretty much right on. Football is like any business. Put out a product that people want and they will buy it and enjoy it. Don't, and they won't. It's a fairly simple concept. And let's be honest, we aren't talking as if this is all new. We have been told to be a VFL we just need to be positive and patient, under every circumstance or we aren't. Well, I for one reject that premise, and I certainly don't blame anyone who left early in the cold while their team just continued to get embarrassed. I think the recruits are smarter than you give them credit. My guess? They witnessed just how early they can see the field next year.

Were you at the game? did you leave early?

Here is my premise, CBJ will be here at least 3 years, either as fans we try to embrace the program and help make it better or we just quit for 3 years and hope another coach comes in and gets it done.

I myself would rather be competing for an SEC championship in 3 years.

What if the players do not give 110%? They're the ones getting the free rides on scholarships. We have to shell out to watch this garbage.

The fans have did more than their share. Now it's time for our excuse-making coaching staff to put up or stfu.

I am talking about more than 1 game, I am talking about a 5 star defensive back, a soon to be 5 star receiver, a 5 star offensive lineman, and 2 4 star defensive tackles but who cares about the future.

32-40 (13-33 in SEC) in the last 6 years. I wouldn't call that struggling, I would call that being ****ing horrible.

I think it shows a certain character to continue to donate money, buy tickets, and show up to games despite having that record over the last 6 years. If they want to leave because they don't want to watch another SEC team burn the clock the entire 2nd half to avoid scoring 60 at Neyland, that's fine with me.

Vol fans are getting royally screwed in terms of getting their money's worth of entertainment. It takes a pretty dedicated fan base to continue to pay out big bucks, year after year, for the product that the university is putting on the field. If the coaches are concerned about what the recruits think about fans leaving early in a classic azz-whooping, then they should prepare their players to become at least moderately competitive.

Was this the first home game that we have invited recruits?

Really, because I still support CBJ and his staff I am not cut out for this message board? Where did you come to that brilliant deduction?

What the hell are you talking about ? It's perfectly fine and expected to support the coach, I support him too, but this calling others on the board out and calling them negavols because they might happen to criticize a coaches decision or performance is childish, stupid and unwarranted.

Nobody on here including you has the right to take the moral high ground on fandom. You people that think you get to determine who the true fans are really just need to shut up with that garbage. Now when you see someone on here openly rooting for our team or a coach or coaches on our team to fail then you can call them a negavol, until then it's just plain senseless.

Man I respect your post, but when there is a continuous bashing of our team in the hardest schedule, with limited talent, with a new coach.......it gets old...So,no disrespect to any fellow Vol fan, but negative and kicking our team right now is not warranted. HELP THEM UP, not down....please

It was sad sitting in Neyland stadium as fans starting leaving in the 3rd quarter and by the early 4th quarter Auburn fans had taken over Neyland stadium.

What hurt even more with the fans leaving was all the high profile recruits in the house, Jackson, Sharpe, Malone, Lamin and etc., may not sit well with some recruits like Malone when your stadium gets taken over by another teams fans.

I know put a better product on the field blah blah blah, but unless your Alabama your not going to get away with paying recruits, ask Mo, so the only way to really put a better product on the field is recruiting better which I think we are but when prospects see our stadium emptying what do you believe they are thinking. Yes I know we got a commit but not a high profile commit.

The future of this program is recruiting and Jackson, Malone and Lamin could start from day 1, so I do not know why some people cant put in 4 hours at a home game. I know the excuses drove a long way, getting beat and all that bs.

I know a lot of people say they are just passionate about the program and they have a right to criticize players and coaches and blah blah blah. that is great you think you are a passionate fan now prove in 2 weeks.

Every fan wants to win, until they get hit in the mouth.

Honestly though, the fans show up to cheer for their team. When that team gets blown out at home the fans leave. It's a basic cause and effect relationship. Conversely, when the team is winning or in a close game the fans stay. Don't blame the fans. Play good football and hang with teams in your conference and the fans will be in the stands. End of story.

Yeah I am not hurting at all, but I would never presume to tell another adult how to be a "real fan".

Unfortunately it happens at every school. Sad but true. And yes even at Ala before Sabsn. There is no worse fickle, bandwagon fans. It's not just UT. Happened at USC, Texas, Ala, UF, AU, etc...

We as fans expect our Vols to give 110% the whole game but yet most will get up and leave as soon as they can. Either stay and give our team 110% or give your tickets to someone that will appreciate the chance to be there.[/QUOT

If you want to pay my donation and the price of my season tickets that I have had for 20 years you can have mine until then I will leave when I want too. Our team is out classed no question and I believe Butch is the man but when some of the players lay down and get stepped on like that I will walk my ass right on out of there. So get on here and rant all you want but we were out classed and we quit Saturday!!

Just wondering if fans who are not season ticket holders know that most seats require a donation of 250-500 for end zone and 1250 and higher between the 20's PLUS cost of tickets [ well over 300] and the cost of a parking pass. So when a season ticket holder leaves early, they make a monetary decision as well as a fan decision. I would not fault anyone who paid big $$ to get in the stadium to leave whenever they want to. I am a season ticket holder, live 6 hrs away, and make decisions on which games to attend and when to leave.

The only reason there are more than 40k fans in the stands at the start of the game is that we show up hoping that this will be the week where we finally turn the corner... If we weren't fans we wouldn't dawn the Orange and buy the tickets and make the pilgrimage....

If some of you want to turn the pilgrimage into martyrdom by staying in your seat after the writing on the wall says "this is not the week" then go for it... But don't think you get to throw rocks just because you choose to suffer more...

You can start to throw rocks at the fanbase when the fans quit showing up to start with because every ounce of optimism has been bled out... Just reminding you it's been 15 years since we won the SEC.... Neither or my kids are old enough to have seen it but they root for the Vols every Saturday just like I do... They just don't take losing to heart because that's all they have really seen us do in their lifetimes....

Think about that... Most of the students at UT were 6 or under in 1998... How much faith can you expect?

I was in college during the Majors years and was a young professional during the glory years of the program where Saturday Vol Football anchored some of my best memories.... Peyton Leading the band... The blocked extra point vs Auburn in 97 when Peyton led us back from being down in the SECCG... The Ark fumble.... Everytime Spurrier threw down his Visor on the FLORIDA not USCjr sideline... Peerless streaking down the sideline with JOHN WARD counting down the yard markers!!!!!

The younger fans and recruits have no idea about any of those things... every Saturday I hope that they will begin to see a glimpse... Most Saturdays I end up let down and am embarrassed in Knoxville once again....

Doesn't mean I won't be back next week with the same hope in the dawn-breaking occurring.....

this ± 100000000 for me.. it is so hard telling my son we will get better n its great to be a tn vol but we watch every game thinking we r turning it/around.. n.every fri.he wears his tn orange to his houston school proudly--

also he knows the only college he will play n attend is tn...his second choice is joins the marines .. either way he will be kick butt...lol

happy bd to all my fellow marines...

I noticed this, and thought, it's hard to blame them, but damn, we have some great recruiting targets there, and it would be nice to see it stay filled longer. That said, I told a friend, if the recruits are smart, they would see the energy from the 1st half, and say to themselves, that will be what it's like all game long when we get UT back to the top.

In fact, I was at the game. I flew out with my family from California to see it. And, I did leave at the end of the 3rd qtr. I agree that Jones deserves time to get us going in the right direction, but my wife & kids were freezing and frankly, I didn't have a whole lot to argue why we should stay. But, if me telling my kids to suck it up and watch us get demoralized makes me a real fan in your eyes, I'll certainly take that into consideration next time.

Only good thing about all the fans leaving early is that it makes it super easy to get out of campus for those of us that stay the whole game. Why beat the traffic out when you can finish the game and still not have to deal with traffic.

I always stay though. The way I look at it, there's 365 days a year and at most if I'm lucky I get to spend 8 of those days at Neyland. So if I'm able to make a game then I'm staying until the victorious/bitter end.

I almost never leave a game early, but that was ridiculous. You can argue depth all you want but that shouldnt have an impact until the fourth quarter. depth or no depth, I expect us to be competitive, and at home!! If butch wants loyal fans, he needs to stop layin duds. we should absolutely always be competitive to start at home. 34 points to auburn? I'll stay for the whole game if the players would simply show up to begin with.

Exactly. I also remember reading that players would run through the brick wall for Butch. If they are serious about that and the effort we have seen on Saturday is their way of demonstrating that loyalty to Butch, than I'm really scared to see what happens when they actually really quit trying. :cray:
