The Fans Quit! again!

It's quite simple: the fans will show up, scream, and stay if the team's effort and performance justify it. I'm there, I make noise, but if we are getting embarrassed, I'll leave when I darn well please. I love Tennessee football, but there are other obligations in my life that just might supersede witnessing the final snap of yet another blowout loss.

Yesterday was just my 2nd Tennessee game and first sec game. It doesn't bother me that people leave early but to me that means they can go to the games on a regular basis. I can't. And even if I did, I wouldn't wanna leave early. I loved being there. I love that area and always will and I miss it already. I'm so misunderstood up in ohio lol. I know the outcome of the game sucked but for someone like me, it was a marvelous time. I wish some of you who wish to only see a winning product on the field just give me your tickets because I'd give anything to go to every home game. So suck it up and go to the stadium and stay the whole game because you don't know how good you have it going there all the time. These players need your support.

I stayed to the end of the game as well, but that doesn't make me a better fan than anyone who left early. Everyone has their own reasons for leaving or staying, and really, it's hard to stay and watch a completely one sided football game. I understand that and am not at all unhappy with anyone who left early. It was freezing and windy, and ultimately it was their money, their time, and their decision to make.

Right, so what is the difference maker at Tennessee? The fan support and gameday atmosphere can be.

Oh stop pretending this was a 2 point game going into the 4th quarter! The game was over by mid 3rd quarter! Like I said before, when fans stop buying tickets and showing up to the games, THEN you can make the claim that they quit! Until then, it's this staff and this team's responsibility to put a product on the field worth watching and frankly, right now the fans are NOT getting any kind of return on their investment! We are not the ones on scholarship. We are not the ones getting paid to coach this team and win. The fans DID their job by purchasing tickets and showing up. The team and this staff has to take it from there and perform on the field. Don't criticize fans because they grew tired of watching bad football.

We stayed to the last play, but it was hard to cheer for many of those guys because there are many on that team that just don't give effort. I'm sure those recruits, at least the ones with any self confidence got fired up watching that game, because they now believe that have a shot to come in and play from the start.
The fans did their part. They filled the stands. The team didn't do their part, and give a maximum effort. Many on the team quit, before the crowd did. Granted, I stayed for the players who gave their all, which were also many. Right now Butch has about half a team who plays the game with guts and pride. It will 2 years of recruiting to fill that void.
We will be back for the Vandy game. I hope Butch is giving those players that didn't give an effort Saturday lots of negative reinforcement this week that it will not be tolerated.

And I'm sure you bashed the players for quitting. ..

I did. Not the entire team, but many of the guys on that field just don't care deep down, and it is evident. There are many players busting their humps every single play, but there are many just going through the motions. Too many players not even trying to fight off blocks, and too many not trying to fight by blocking. There are too many scared players on the field right now for Butch to win many games.
The scheme didn't lose that game. Coaching didn't lose that game. Don't give a crap lost that game. It only takes 1 or 2 don't give a craps on the field to lose a game. Including special teams, we have about half of our players that don't give a crap. No phase of the game can be excluded.
I don't care how much talent a guy has, if he doesn't give maximum effort, he should sit the bench. If I were Butch I would put my maximum effort guys on the field for battle. If I were going to lose, I would at least want to be able to applaud their efforts. Right now, there are too many who are playing who don't give a crap. Scrappy is better than crappy.

We're season ticket holders, drive 3hrs to each & every home game- have only missed one game in all these years- have to pay for gas & a hotel room (depending on what time kick-off is), food & etc so it's no one's business what time we arrive on campus, whether we are at the Walk or not or when we decide to leave the stadium. We are behind our coaches and team a full 100% plus but come on, what difference would it make on the field for people to leave early when you know full well the outcome won't change? Do you honestly think the team's mind is on the fans leaving?

GO VOLS..
GO BIG ORANGE ...

It was sad sitting in Neyland stadium as fans starting leaving in the 3rd quarter and by the early 4th quarter Auburn fans had taken over Neyland stadium.

What hurt even more with the fans leaving was all the high profile recruits in the house, Jackson, Sharpe, Malone, Lamin and etc., may not sit well with some recruits like Malone when your stadium gets taken over by another teams fans.

I know put a better product on the field blah blah blah, but unless your Alabama your not going to get away with paying recruits, ask Mo, so the only way to really put a better product on the field is recruiting better which I think we are but when prospects see our stadium emptying what do you believe they are thinking. Yes I know we got a commit but not a high profile commit.

The future of this program is recruiting and Jackson, Malone and Lamin could start from day 1, so I do not know why some people cant put in 4 hours at a home game. I know the excuses drove a long way, getting beat and all that bs.

I know a lot of people say they are just passionate about the program and they have a right to criticize players and coaches and blah blah blah. that is great you think you are a passionate fan now prove in 2 weeks.

UT fans are just beyond tired of losing IMHO. It's depressing and really is hard to watch. Especially if you are old enough to remember the Vols of the 90's. It's really no different than being at home watching the game and turning the TV off.... doing something else with your Saturday other than watching a really bad volunteer football team stink it up. Still love my Vols, but I have a choice if I want to subject my brain to the misery or not.

Being that Im a average fan that just watches games on tv. I cant help but feel sorry for those fans that lay out some big cash for season tickets....travel and eats costs....hotels...gear etc. They watch their team of choice after laying out this wad and leave when it becomes unfun. Especially those that go all in with body paint, signs, high dollar sections. I just turn off the tv.

I didn't go to the game.
I watched until the 3rd qtr put it away.
I went outside and played football with my 6 and 9-year-old boys on a beautiful, cool fall afternoon.

I was smiling while the Vols were getting drubbed.

Sue me.

If it wasn't fun, 100,000 people wouldn't show up time and time again. Win or lose, a trip to Neyland is a great time (for me, anyway).

We took the long walk out after we failed to convert 4th and 2 in their territory mid-way in the 4th quarter.

Unlike the team, I played both ways - offense and defense - and I'm still hoarse. I gave 52 quality minutes to the effort. If you stuck around during garbage time to add to your plastic cup collection....goody for you. Enjoy your martyrdom.

Why are you complaining about the fans leaving in the fourth quarter?

The Vol defense got up and left in the first quarter.

I couldn't make it to the game. I was working 12 hour night shifts. After already working 60 hours last week and coming home at 7am Saturday morning, I set my alarm to watch kickoff. After watching them gash our special teams and defense, I turned it off at halftime and went back to bed having to be back at work by 7p. Sorry for not being a "real" fan. That loss is on me.

FWIW, I went to the game and left 2:00min before the end. That stadium will rock when it needs to, but when I'm getting a hot dog at halftime and come back to my seat to find out Auburn just ran back a kickoff before I've even put the ketchup on...its downright depressing. As fans, our money is what makes it possible for the players to play. Give me a reason to stay, hell I will stay till the end even if we're down 2 scores because we have a chance. I didn't pay 100 to watch the replacements.

Recruits probably wanted to leave with the fans.

Sad but those guys know the condition of the program. Many know they can come in here and probably start Day One. Some of the returning starters wont be starting next yr. Some will have to change positions to get on the field. These guys also know the program isnt going to be down much longer. Most want to play right away and with other good players. that is going to happen and the fans will stay then.

I live in Birmingham. Normally, with three small children I can't make it up for games. Just too expensive. $60 x 5 = $300 just for tickets. But, by the grace of God, I did get the opportunity to come up for this one as a buddy had an extra ticket, and I got a weekend pass for a guy's weekend.

My guess is most of the whiney butt "true fans" clamoring for 100% attendance to the bitter end watching a game that is out of hand, get to live/stay in the collective comfort of God's country somewhere in east Tennessee and lick their wounds. Their are some of us that get to return to our lives elsewhere and endure the Barners and Bammers on daily basis. Wish I could leave early on that... During the good years of the 90's, I had UT vanity plates on the front of my car, so I had my car keyed and the plates broken off on multiple occasions. During the latter years of our demise, it's either feigned "pity" from the same people or flat out in your face taunting.

I am 100% Tennessee Volunteer. I'm raising my children to be 100% Tennessee Volunteer in a land where they are picked on and made fun of for doing so. I get to teach my 11 year old son to stand with pride wearing his Tennessee orange when his friends wearing their crimson or barner orange and blue tease him on a regular basis. And he does stand there there with pride - and he's never even lived in Tennessee.

So bottom line for those clamoring for "staying until the titanic goes down" martyrdom... It's entertainment. For many of us it's born in us and a way of life that runs through our veins, but at the end of the day it's entertainment. If a movie is bad, and I figured out the ending, I necessarily ain't staying for that either.

And for the record I did stay until the end, and I don't pass judgement on those who possibly had better sense than me to sit there in that cold wind watching a defense that couldn't have even stopped Auburn from running through the T if they had wanted to.

Good things are coming... And I can't wait. Just get off your high horse and let people support this team - as it stands - however they can. As somebody else put it, worry when people aren't there for the start.

I left at the end of the 3rd. Guess I'm not a "true fan." Most fans are just frustrated with the way the past few games have gone. I know we're playing top talent, but it looks like some are quitting.
