Anyone else impressed by the new album? The combination of beautiful vocals and an incredible piano-driven melody is captivating.

Am not impressed with them at all. I think the overplaying of "How To Save a Life" killed it for me.

People hate because they are conditioned to.

Very true. Even if I don't like a certain band or style, I tend to avoid too harsh of criticism if it is original and talented. I save that for mindless, programmed pop with computerized vocals or generic country music.

It's actually kind of sad, to me, that there is a certain subset of listeners who automatically discount up-and-coming bands once they get radio play or achieve popularity (see "The Dave Matthews Phenomenon").

Trust me, you will probably never hear or see me say more than 'Not the sort of music I listen to,' when criticising music or bands I don't care for. I agree that dumping a band because they are on the radio is rediculous. Then again, I don't recall the last time I listened to the radio so I wouldn't know if stuff I listen to is on there or not. lol

I may rib about things, and since I know what a Fray concert looks like crowd-wise, I figured it was an appropriate comment.

I don't listen to the Fray much, but it didn't seem all that bad if you like that sort of stuff.

i'm a huge fan of the Fray. I think KD is dead on with his description.

However, I don't think people hate because they are conditioned to necessarily, I think too many people fear they can only associate with stereotypes and a male listening to the Fray would be considered fruity by too many people who have no clue.

Negative.
I liked the Fray initially until I brought their first CD and realized all the songs sound then same and then they created that same CD a second time. On a different note I met their lead singer when I was at a Weezer concert and he was a pretty cool guy but that doesnt change my opinion on their music which is run of the mill.

Ok just listened to the new album and yeah.. not too impressed, just kinda blah dreary tempos, lacks originality, what i would expect from a band that gained popularity on Greys Anatomy.
