Hey folks,

I'm Blzer4Life, aka B4L, a mod from over at Blazertalk.com, the UAB message board.

I've been lurking for a few days and have chatted with Freak because I was hoping to raise a bit of awareness and drum up a little support.

UAB presented an initial plan for an on-campus stadium at the September BOT meeting and there was support at that meeting. The stadium vote was placed on the Nov. 3rd agenda. On Nov. 1st, many of us learned that someone pulled the stadium vote from the agenda. The trustees issued a statement saying that this is not in the best interest of UAB, the system, nor the state.

Since last week was the "epic defensive battle of the century", many people did not hear about this. We're just looking to build awareness amongst ALL football fans. There are more details at FreeUAB.com.

Thanks for your time,
-B4L

[PS - I was the UAB mascot for about 5 years and I must say that, of all the places I mascoted, UT was the best, hands down. I've always had the utmost respect for UT because of how I was treated EVERY TIME I came up to Knoxville (for games or camps).

"- It sits in an undesirable part of Birmingham, hampering attendance, especially for night games."

All of Birmingham is undesirable. There's a reason why Birmingham homicide detectives are featured on the 'First 48.' Best thing UAB can do is move the games to Hoover like the Barons did years ago.

I have to respectfully disagree. There are places not as favorable as other, but for the most part, Birmingham is an amazing city. Don't let a show like "First 48" cloud your judgement of the city. if you happen through Bham, look me up. I'll be more than happy to show you a great experience in Birmingham.

PS - The Barons are coming back to downtown. They are building a baseball stadium near Railroad Park for them. Which, coincidentally, will be right next to the OCS.

The movement is for "Fair Representation" and "Open Discussion" about the stadium. But the goal of the movement is long-term. Ultimately, we'd like to create an organization that supports and promotes UAB, much like an Alumni Association would, that ISN'T directly affiliated with the University.

Now, some people do infer from that name that it's about UAB breaking away from the UA Trustee System. I can't say I disagree with that. However, that is a very long way down the road.

The UA BOT cares little about the schools not located in Tuscaloosa.

Yea, cutting Hockey was out of line by Portera. Especially with the amount of private money the business community is willing to put behind the team.

Yeah. Personally, I really don't care about the hockey program it was a novelty sport no one goes to the game after the 3rd week anyways. Its more about the research spheres of influence that UAT is just plain ignoring now. They low ball UAB and UAH, while giving everything to themselves. Both universities would be better off in the long run by jumping ship. I'd imagine with UAB's size it'd be much easier for you.

Actually, it's just the opposite. If we jumped ship, the UA BOT would want to keep the Hospital (aka the cash cow of the UA Trustee system). And without fair/adequate representation on the BOT, there's no way we'd be allowed to keep it.
