"I gotta wear shades :matrix: "

I think I'm more excited about 2006 than any year in a long time. Just very curious, know what I mean? :wink2:

I was saying the same thing to myself back in March about this season. So I'm afraid to be disappointed again, but I agree with you and can't wait until kickoff versus Cal.

Its nice to see someone who isn't suicidal!

Always jacked up about "Football Time in Tennessee". Again, this season cant wait to watch another Great Defense. (No Offensive pun intended)

QB and receivers are the only two areas that need fixing. We had a back that got over one-hundred yards most every game. Defense was tough. Dropped passes, fumbling, by the receivers and poor throws and bad decisions by the QBs are the difference. Cut will fix that in a hurry.

I was so jacked up for this season and ran my mouth to all my UGA buddies about how we were so good this year and how our offense was as good as USC and we will be Contenders this year. Well now I'm taking a brutal beating for everyone about my beloved Vols. I still stand behind them just going to be more conservative about my trash talking from here on out. I still can't wait till next yr, but just won't let myself get burned again.

Easy now.  Tennessee still has issues.

True, they have a lot of issues. But looking back on the season, I'm hopeful that all of the issues are ones that can be fixed by the changes in the offensive coaching staff.

Compare, for a second, this year's team with last year's team. Last year, the vols won, what, 7 games by a total of 6 points or less? This year, there was a single play in each loss, and usually several, that could have put the vols in the win column: the special teams breakdowns against Fla, the punt return or late pick against UGA, the fumble through the endzone against Bama or USC, the picks or punt returns or the 3rd down against ND, the failure to make one first down against...bleh, I hate to say it...Vandy. And this from a team that clearly never performed well at any time of the season on offense and which truly stunk for most of the season on special teams.

My point is, the difference between being 10-2 and 5-6 for the Vols--and any other team in the SEC-- is very slim, coming down to a handful of plays. Last year's team made them. This year's team did not, but it was not for lack of talent. Work out the mistakes, and I think we are right back contending for the east.

Of course, as my uncle reminded me, the 2005 squad was also about 3 plays (UAB, Memphis, LSU) from being 2-9, so they had better get those issues corrected.

yes and how many of USC's wins "boil down to a few" plays. Wins and or losses should not be routinely determined by a few plays here and there. I think that is a cop out. The same is true for Texas.

jeez. give me a break. who did USC play again? who did TX play again? the two teams they both played that were really worth a crap, both games were separated by a couple of plays...USC/ND and TX/OSU...both teams were in VERY REAL DANGER of losing each...and if it had not been for 1 4th down play against ND and 1 4th down pass against OSU, they wouldn't be where they are now...And if i recall, USC had to come from behind against Az St, Oregon and Fresno st as well, and TX had to come from behind against A&M, OK St as well as OSU...

Style points suck. people watch too many highlight shows. I hate close games too, but only because it stresses me out. I really hate the fact that i have to feel bad because my team didn't win by enough to impress some media person???@!!!!

Say what you want but after the constant clucking that Vandy fans have been doing the past 2 & 1/2 weeks (which I do not expect to end for several years now) I am hoping and praying that CPF will keep his starters in for 60 min against the 'Dores the next few years and try really hard to hang a century (100 points) on them.

If Vandy fans are bothering you that bad, one need only remind them that it's 1 out of 22. No one is going to beat the same team over and over again forever...it was bound to happen.

and we lost that game. my point was about winning games not "pretty" enough. losing is losing. No such thing as losing pretty, is there?

I can think of at least 2 that turned on 1 play in each: Notre Dame and Fresno State. Notre Dame had them beat until a miraculous 4th and 19 that set up the late semi-controversial TD. The talent level is so high at good programs--and the SEC is full of them--that there are going to be many that turn on one or two plays.

Name me a recent NC that has not had a close call, or tell me any team in any conference that could go dominate an SEC schedule + a championship game. The best teams find ways to make those plays through toughness and concentration and great players rising to the occasion. Tennessee this year did not, but the players are there to be among the elite again next year. They need to find whatever that intangible is that makes great teams win those games, because I guarantee we will never build a program that beats every opponent by 5 touchdowns.

Well I live in Memphis and they hav 1 of 20 and they still won't let it go.

i'm from Memphis, and was at that game...it was almost 10 years ago, and at this point, what happened then doesn't matter anymore....that's life for a memphis fan....

If memphis and vandy fans are getting to you guys, then we really have taken some serious steps backwards.

OK, OK...yeah, UGA, USC, Bama and UF fans are one thing....but Vandy and Memphis fans......let's just say they're a little too light in the ass to be talking any junk to anybody, much less us.
