Just saw this movie on TV last night. I had forgotten how good it was. The attention paid to historical detail is amazing.

Yeah I watched part of it last night too on USA before I fell asleep. One of my favorite movies. DiCaprio and Daniel Day-Lewis are great.

For a Hollywood flick? Yes.

Of course, most of the scenes were totally fabricated, but the background was historically accurate. Boss Tweed, the Five Points, the New York City draft riots, tensions between "natives" and immigrants were all reality. The wardrobes, buildings, etc. were all accurate.

Catch Me if You Can? The Departed? Really??

Those being a couple more, along with Basketball Diaries. Not sure whether those make up for the Beach or Titanic, but he's gotten better.

Blood Diamond wasn't terrible, either.

It's one of my favorite movies. Check out the extra on the DVD. The set was real and built as best they could to what five points was like in the 1860s. A lot of the characters were real people who lived in five points, though not all at the same time.

IMO Leo is kind of a typecast now.

Day-Lewis' speech where he's wearing the American flag is heart-stopping. Easily among the best actors in film history.
