I know everyone is tired of hearing about USuC but I just got word that the NCAA is going to severly punish SoCal. The meeting between the committee and the athletic dept is to take place today although I'm not sure when it will be made public. Some of us, including me, feared it would be a slap on the wrist or just a bama ruling (vacated wins) but this is going to be extensive. It will effect both football & basketball, perhaps other programs, the athletic director, scholarships, boosters access to the athletes, and maybe even camps. From the word I got the punishment will include sanctions that have not been issued before (at least not at this level). I was told the ruling will be "creative".
This will be important b/c it will help re-establish the NCAA rules and give the committee credibilty, which has suffered recently (and for good reason).
Regarding Kiffin, I suppose life does have a strange sense of irony. UT is better for having seen him leave. His play-calling (in)ability will be exposed and monte (God bless him) will struggle in the PAC-10 against the wide-open offenses (think ohio, ole miss, auburn for examples this past season).
One point I would like to make is that its a shame the true violators (reggie bush, oj mayo, etc) will not suffer any consequences themselves. This may not deter athletes going forward, as their haven is easy found in the high-paying professional rank. They & the boosters are the real culprits in my eye. USC simply turned a blind eye in many cases (maybe not all).
Now, granted, this info is from a second-hand source so take it with a grain of salt. At the very least, this will only confirm that God is indeed a UT fan and east TN is God's country!!
Go Vols! (Don't crucify me if this doesn't come to pass)
