If they win..............they get ALL off the 20Million pay out................SEC, BIG 10 etc. would have to divide it.
A bunch..........A bunch of Fat Cats Alumni..............giving giving giving
They are NOT being forced to be in a Conference like was proposed and fought for.......................
Schedule they will have will be on balance much easier that playing a SEC or Big 10 Conference Schedule.....
IMHO..............they will be in the HUNT every year until someone stops the madness.

Notre Dame has already secured the $20 million. That was the total payout for reaching the title game.

$4 million for qualifying for the CFP.
$4 million for reaching the quarterfinals.
$6 million for reaching the semifinals.
$6 million for reaching the final.

"What is going on right now will go on indefinitely" is a powerful thing.

Until now, most people on VN thought ND was overrated and would always lose against against another good team, particularly if it was an SEC team.
Put me in the camp that I’m still not sold on them. I’m just not. I’m sure I’ll get a lot of pushback, I know what their resume is in the CFP, on paper it’s really impressive, but I also think they’ve been the recipient of some gifts that helped them along the way. They get Indiana at home and take care of business, not taking anything away from that. Good win. They get UGA w/o Beck and UGA implodes giving up 17 points in 54 seconds of game time w/ a short field and a kick return. Penn State was rolling in the first half, they looked dominant for 28 minutes, despite that Allar missed 2 touchdown throws, 1 easy one. Notre Dame gets a shot in the arm w/ the backup coming in and Penn State ends up doing what they do under Franklin . Not saying Notre Dame didn’t have anything to do with the outcome of these games, they’re a good team, I just think they’ve gotten a lot of bounces and that its entirely possible that given the weakness of their regular season schedule (people don’t come at me talking about ranked wins when half of them were vs Service Academies) it would’ve been difficult for them to make the CFP if they were in the SEC or B1G. Yes they can beat team X in January on a neutral field, but can they beat that comparable level of talent week after week in on campus stadiums ? I have my doubts . Good on them and Swarbrick though for setting up this formula, it’s obviously working out .

I agree they don't look that good. but really until OSU in the playoffs NO ONE looked elite this year. I don't mind saying they are one of the best this year.

The question will be is this them peaking while everyone else is in a low point? Or will they actually be in the finals regularly?

I think name recognition and schedule gets them in every year, but I think this year is special for them. and really any team having a championship year should be a "special" year. so that's not really taking away from ND. every championship team has had the ball bounce their way, or played a team without a QB or other key starter, or got someone at home, or whatever it is.

fanbases got spoiled thinking their "should" be dynasties. that their team "should" win the title every year or its a disappointment. it was really just Saban throwing everyone off to making it think it is possible/likely.

I agree that no one has been really good this year until Ohio State played Us and Oregon. It has been an exciting college football season because there was no one dominant at all. It was honestly pretty ugly . I keep looking for a comparison of this Notre Dame team. It’s almost like a 5 or 6 seed in the NCAA basketball tournament that keeps overachieving, getting favorable matchups and they keep gutting out ugly wins. Like a Syracuse 1996 team that got to the title game and eventually lost to a great Kentucky team, which will be Ohio State.

I gotta start by saying that making the championship game looks pretty good from here.
Not having a dominant regular season team this year skews the optics. Ohio State has certainly looked good in the playoff. And yet Notre Dame can win this game. They aren't a pushover. Ohio State will have to go out and win it. If you can beat Indiana Georgia and Penn State then you're a helluva ballclub. Both teams are well built. No small fries out there or people who can't run and hit. Should be a great game.

I think they have largely avoided injury issues this year. But it sounds like their starting LT is down, so that will be a big loss.

Oh I'm not sold on them either, if "sold" means they'll be in the playoff every year/contending for a title every single year.

Before the CFP, their only great win was against A&M in the opener. They benefitted from Indiana having their best season since 1967 or 1945, and they also benefitted from Army and Navy both being good. IMO none of those teams were great teams, but they all had great seasons and were highly ranked at the time ND played them. If instead of beating A&M they beat a P4 team that finished 5-7, I wonder if they would have still gotten in. Probably, but there would have been more of a debate.

ND is easy to hate, but they do try and play good programs. It isn't their fault that USC and FSU are horrible right now.

My post wasn’t really directed at you, at least the part about the schedule . Others have said how they’ve beaten so many good teams, and I’ve sort of taken issue with that.
