.... Have a great possibility to go 11-1 ....

What a turn around for a program that was 0-12 in 2009 & 2-10 in 2010.

Does WKU have enough money to keep Willie Taggart?

(in before "dont they play in the sunbelt?")

He'll get a non BCS job soon whether they have enough money to throw at him or not. I realize he's an alum but he won't stay at WKU long.

As a WKU alumnus, I've been VERY pleased with the progress of the program the past two years. I agree that 11-1 is quite a good possibility for the 'Toppers since we got past UK and Southern Miss (I still can't believe we dominated them like we did, sheesh). ULM and even MTSU will be our biggest tests left. How crazy would it be if our only loss was to #1 Bama?

As far as Taggart goes, I think he has at least one more year left with WKU to show this season (if it continues as planned) is not a fluke before he is ready to take over a bigger program. He'll be gone soon, but I'll be happy for him and the success he is bringing back to the football program.

And the Sun Belt is no slouch this year! Multiple wins over BCS conference opponents. ULM beat Arkansas, and then nearly took down Auburn and Baylor. WKU over UK and Southern Miss. MTSU over Georgia Tech. There are others I'm missing, I'm sure.

As a Team Sun Belt fan, it's nice to see WKU doing well. I doubt Taggart will stay, if some team from a BCS Conference comes calling. He will be picked, just like Freeze was from Arksnasa State. Good luck to the Hilltoppers this year. I definitely think y'all will be Bowling after this season.

The WKU/MTSU should be a very good game this year. It's hard to believe MTSU lost their first game to McNeese St., but they've looked pretty good since.

I was at that game and they honestly looked like the worst team in all of college football. I was expecting another 2-10 season or worse. Their performance the past 4 weeks has given me some hope for the rest of the season.

Taggart will be gone if the Tops win out and win the bowl game.

His football mentality is "Harbaugh-esque", which is a proven commodity in the college game. See Stanford.

WKU runs multiple tight end sets, even three at a time, which allows them to run the ball so well. When the tops line up in this fashion it automatically places the WRs in single coverage. They beat you down with the run and pass anywhere from 10-15 times a game.

It is really a beautiful thing.

Hopefully WKU won't get screwed out of a bowl game this year.

What cost them a bowl game (and hard to argue) is the fanbase. We didn't draw for crap at home last year, including the UK game in Nashville and the bowls didn't expect WKU to suddenly bring 20k+ eight hours away. Now that they're winning people are coming out and jumping on the bandwagon, set a stadium record 2 weeks ago vs USM.

As far as Taggart leaving for a BCS school I honestly only see that happening if its a FL school, to go back home. The way he recruits his home area in Tampa/Bradenton he'd be a nightmare for the big schools if he's at a place like USF or UCF.

President Ransdall needs to pony up and pay him what it takes to keep him comfortable for a while. There's no reason we shouldn't be able to pay on par with Ark. St. and ULM in that $700-800k range.

I agree with the beauty aspect. I kicked and screamed to get Jakes off the field in years past but a light came on somewhere after that Lafayette game last year and he's been more than serviceable since then. Taggart's playcalling in years past seemed suspect too but I'm leaning towards attributing it to a change in scheme/philosophy and not having his guys yet. He's turned into a hell of a play caller and has drawn up some amazing gameplans this year and made the right calls at the right time.

I said the same thing last week. Houchens industries has the cash, they were ready to pony it up for Darrin Horn. Taggert would be a much better investment.

What did they offer/prepare to offer Horn? Thought I read $475-$500k. Im convinced Ransdell and the trustees's have no idea what it takes to keep coaches.

With Houchens involved, they were ready to take it to the 750k mark if need be, with a few BIG bonuses for sun belt titles and tourney appearances.

He'll leave the same reason Urban Cryer left Utah. When a top 10 program offers 2-3 mill compared to your dead end job that pays 500 thou it's a no brainer. Programs like that can't sustain. Look at Boise. Their run was a sweet 5 years of serious contention. But without the budget you can't compete every week. Plus there no Kellen Moore anymore. Coaches get that king of qb once in a career.

TBH .. The greatest thing about Willie is that he can flat out recruit. The worst thing about the guy is that he is worse than Les Miles when talking to the media.

Will Houchens be ready to pay? Probably.
Will it be enough? Probably not.

At least with Les we know what he's saying we just don't get it. With Willie, he may be saying the most intelligent thing ever, we just can't make out the words haha. He's really going to have to clean that up if he wants a job anywhere besides his alma mater. It's embarrassing listening to him, especially when you know the guy has a college education (and it came from our alma mater) and a professional job.

Very True.

All in all, I love watching this team play and it does my heart good that my college tuition went into actually building something that is downright good for the university and the community.
