is deeper and older than anyone would suspect for a Western Kentucky town of 30,000. UT fans know Scotty Hopson and Isaiah Victor, and may remember Greg Buckner or Artose Pinner, but I don't think I've ever known of a town of this size to produce the number of D1 college players that Hoptown does.
There have been at least 15 guys play major college ball since I was in highschool in the '90s, and it would be more if the public schools could do even a slightly decent job educating kids so they would be eligible at the next level, but the line goes back farther than that. Linked is an article about a local legend and the best shooter I have ever seen, and I saw him in his 40s, long after his career was over. Maybe it is something in the water here:
