Arizona State just choked away an extremely winnable game to Arizona, 31-27. Utah needs a UCLA loss at USC and a win at home versus Colorado to represent the Pac-12 South with a 5-4 conference record. Sigh.

The best scenario would be if UCLA loses to USC and Utah loses to Colorado. That way, UCLA enters the P12 title game at 6-6, meaning either Rose Bowl or no bowl.

UCLA only plays for the Pac-12 title if they beat USC or if Utah loses to Colorado.

Both are somewhere in the cold day in hell ballpark.

That would be funny.
A better, but even less likely scenario, would be if they turned down the Pac-12 title game invitation to accept the bowl in hand at 6-6.

They still go to a bowl with 6 wins.

Not only that, with USC and Miami out of bowl games with winning records, I think we may see a team somewhere out there with a losing record get in to a bowl.

dunno what the "official" rules are, but if they somehow make it to the title game and lose i have a hard time believing that they wouldn't make a bowl...despite being 6-7

Not sure about that. I don't think you're allowed to be bowl eligible with a losing record.

You may be right, I'm not sure. If that's the case UCLA is better off losing this weekend to maintain eligibility. (think they are 6-5 now)

You can't be bowl eligible with 13 games played unless you have seven wins or more. It would literally be Rose Bowl or bust.

I think if you win your conference you can. North Texas went to the New Orleans Bowl a few year ago at 5-7 but they had the best record on the Sun Belt.

You're correct. I should have added that caveat. I was simply talking about what would happen if a 6-6 UCLA team lost the P12CG.

Wouldn't it be moot? A 6-7 non-conference champion team won't be going to a bowl, I don't think. Maybe it's different if UCLA is 5-7 going into the game and wins to be 6-7.

Not really. If they win this weekend, they'll be 7-5 and eliminate the possibility of a losing record. The OP's scenario involves UCLA losing to fall to 6-6 and still backing into the title game.
