1. Tennessee played this game with as much excitement as I have for my 9 AM Spanish class tomorrow, which means not at all. They won, but there was just something mundane about the whole thing.

2. It's really hard to complain about the defense when Tennessee only allowed six offensive rebounds and 41.7% shooting, but the decision to switch on ball screens were not a great option. Chris Denson got whatever he wanted in the paint.

3. However, Tennessee did a really nice job on offense. Tennessee missed a decent amount of layups but they got whatever they wanted in the paint. The gameplan was simple and it worked offensively.

4. Turnovers. I don't know what has happened, but it's the only reason Auburn was in the game. I was disappointed in the lack of ball protection from the team. Way too many lazy passes right now. They aren't crisp and they look as if they are going through the motions with their passes, which shouldn't happen.

5. Interesting that Cuonzo really shortened the rotation tonight. He's going to need 8-9 players (Edwards/Davis barely got minutes) to get through the SEC, especially with Maymon's knee and Jordy's ankle. Edwards/Moore needs to step up.

6. It was nice to see the team ice the game with free throws, which they didn't do Saturday. That's an improvement.

7. Bernard King Player of the Game: I'll go with Jarnell because he dominated the boards today when Tennessee really needed to. Richardson deserves a shout out and McRae did a little bit of everything, but Jarnell really kicked ass on the boards and went 6-6 from the line. Good bounce back performance from him.

8. Tennessee's three point defense was lazy again. Cuonzo better fix that soon. It's not even a game plan thing, this is on the players. They have to be more energetic covering the three ball.

9. I'm nervous that Antonio Barton has hit a wall. His defense was shoddy today and his jump shot isn't there. He needs to do a better job attacking the rim and making plays, for him or others.

10. It's a win. Other than the basket attacks and turnovers, there isn't much I can put in this game. It was a trap game, with Tennessee looking back against Texas A&M and looking forward to Kentucky. The thing I wish I saw was a more killer instinct that I saw against LSU. They had a double digit lead. It should not have been five with two in a half to go in the second half. Tennessee needs this victory against Kentucky. It will be tough.

Go Vols!!! :hi:

Good write up, dreading to go back tomorrow. Not sure how I feel about Kentucky, if we come out like we did against LSU or Virginia, it can be a solid game.

All 5 starters scored at least 10 points. We got a grand total of 6 points from our bench. Not a recipe for success. We need players off the bench to help with scoring.

42 boards is great stat. Only teams I see outrebounding us are UK and Florida. We continue to dominate the boards.

Jarnell's free throws really deserve it's own thread. I'm glad he's putting in the work at the free throw line. He didn't pick up his first foul until 5 mins left in the second half. When he doesn't have fouls. He plays with great confidence and it showed.

McRae missed 4 free throws and still ended with 20+ points. Getting it done when needed.

A win is a win. Now onto Rupp Saturday. Boys better be ready. Freshmen or not they're going to be pissed and ready to play.

Turnovers are my biggest concern. Get back to 10 and less and we are a really tough team to beat with how we rebound and have been shooting free throws.

The stat sheet says that was an easy 20 point win but it was still close at the end. A really weird game.

And never thought I would say this, but I like what Reese has been bringing to the table. He brings a rim presence that neither Maymon or Stokes posses, and he's rebounding very well.

Turnovers is it IMO

6 or so less turnovers (our average) and you're talking 6 or 7 more points and it's close to a 20 point game. Defense wasn't great considering how obvious it was what they were gonna do, but turnovers is my biggest concern.

It was a fun game to watch in streaks, but not overall. If Tennessee doesn't learn how to close the door, teams that keep hanging around will be the downfall.

I think I'm a little more upbeat about this game than most-a conference win is never going to be a pushover. We protected home court and won by double digits. On to the next one!

It's a win. Next.

Now it gets interesting. Ky, Ark and Fla in the next 3 games. We'll found out more about this team in another week.

How I feel too.

Auburn lost to Missouri and Ole Miss by 5 points total, conference games should never be taken for granted.

UT doesn't play Auburn again until March 3rd. Hopefully, they'll be beat down and UT will play better on the road.

He's not quite at iKrag's level yet, but he has been very serviceable. Very happy to see that.

Martin said Davis suffered an ankle injury and hats why he didn't play fwiw

I was at the game and it was very quiet in the arena for most of the night. Almost like nobody wanted to be there but had to be anyway. Biggest and loudest cheer of the night was when Bernard King was introduced early in the first half. I doubt he was too impressed with what he saw tonight.

Tonight was normal for the program now. The team reflects the coach. The coach makes few to no significant adjustments. The 3 point D is bad because they struggle against quicker guards that dribble drive. That leaves the kick-outs wide open. In general the game looked like a nuisance to our players. Like something they had to get done.

The next three games determine the season.

Now for the meat of the schedule. The next week or two will be fun and agony at the same time - which makes it fun, imo. What the hell...let's go to Rupp and rip the kitties a new one.

I'm expecting much of the same the next 2 weeks.

I'm predicting 2-2. Will provide plenty of ammo for both sides to continue the ongoing arguments lol.

There's no shame in losing to Ky or Fla or even Ark really. We need to play loose and play with nothing to lose because we'll be underdogs in every one of those but the Ark game.

I agree there's no shame, but because of the bad losses many are saying 1 of those is a must win, when IMO it's not.

It would definitely be nice, but I think we can still have a successful year without winning either of those games.
