I took my younger brother to that game for his 16th birthday. We stayed with some friends of mine from high school and had a little too much fun.

Guy is arguably the most under appreciated player in UT history, just a pure leader and winner.

We caught some breaks down the stretch. Controversial spot on that last 3rd down for Alabama, could’ve been flagged for too many men on the punt if Alabama snapped the ball quicker. If Alabama had decided to throw instead of run on the very last possession they could’ve gotten two or three plays off, but instead they ran and called a timeout. Then a bad snap messes up the kicker. In today’s agressive offensive era we probably would have lost that game at the end of regulation. Ended up being one of the most exciting finishes in the series’ history.

Not for me, he is my all time favorite, for many reasons. Beat Florida at Florida twice, a road warrior for sure, not just confident, but determined, even played with a broken collarbone. Who does that? I named my dog after him, and have his jersey, Casey will always be my favorite Tennessee quarterback.

Just watched the entire game, FIVE Overtimes! This game had everything, trick plays, an interception in the end zone on a AL 2 point play, a blocked AL field goal, a TN td off a tipped ball in the end zone. It’s a who’s who of Tennessee legend players, Casey, Colquit (55 yard punt), Wilhoit (star of the Florida win), Banks, Munoz, Herrera, Fleming, Houston, everyone. Randy Sanders called a heck of a game. Chavis led the Defense.

We saw Smokey, Jill Arrington too, and heard lots of Loud Rocky Top.

TN just kept saving the game, got stronger as the game went on, and outlasted AL. With 1:52 left in regulation and no time outs, Casey and company drove the field to tie the game at 20. Then Wilhoit, our kicker, saved an AL touchdown on the kick off.

In the second overtime, it was 4th and 19 on the 34 yard line, and we converted. The announcer just quietly said’ “Unbelievable.” Then we scored a td on a tipped ball.

Both announcers agreed Casey scored that touchdown when he dove for the pylon in the 5th overtime, then Casey scored it twice when he did a quarterback sneak on the next play. For the 2 point play, Casey audibled to James Banks. Defense held on and we won a game for the ages.

Ah, the memories. Hope they show this game to our this year’s team.

And we’ll always remember his dismantling of Michigan in the bowl game. One of my favorite games.
