On a business trip to Memphis in 1985 I was staying at a Ramada Inn can’t remember the street/road but it was close to what was called The Vapors Club. Was at the bar and had conversation with a guy that told me he had flown in for birthday party for a close friend on his 50th birthday. When he got up to finally leave he asked me if I liked Jerry Lee Lewis music, and told him I was very big fan of his.
He said “well that is the close friend that I mentioned and you‘re welcome to come with me as my guest at The Vapors.”
I went and it was great time, probably 50 people there all waiting on Jerry to show up. Never forget when he walked in, had on a white full length fur coat, and with a red hair woman that was quite taller than him. He played piano and sang for the party. What was interesting he played and sang songs I had never heard him play. I actually stood probably 10 feet from him while he performed.

He was very personable and friendly to everyone, thanking every single person for coming to his party. It was one of those lucky moments that I will never forget.

yea, closest I ever came to being up close to a celebrity that I was a fan of. He was known as a rebel and certainly different, but I was so impressed to how genuine, appreciative, and respectful he was to everyone.

My favorite song of his. Certainly not his best work and I don’t know why but this one always stuck in my memory
