Am I the only one who questions Hubbs, the News Sentinel, and BOTH Knoxville sports radio programs when they "report" something? Why do they all seem to be the mouthpiece of the UT program and will not or cannot get the good stuff out there?

For instance, if UT tells them all that they are NOT to leak information or face exclusion from future information or whatever, ie "burn" them, why wouldnt KNS flex their muscle as the only newspaper in town and call that bluff? They are the ONLY real newspaper in town, need to sell copy, AND can make it really difficult on the UT administration (see the grousing about Fulmer by one John Adams, though even then he didnt take it far enough as he could have).

Hubbs I understand, him getting blacklisted would be devastating to his business, and really he has no leverage in this situation. I can see Dave Hart being a hardass in that instance.

But the traditional media outlets need to grow a pair. In this day and age, a traditional media outlet breaking the story would be massively huge on a national scale (see the (probably) nonsense report coming out of Memphis).

They aren't journalists, they are reporters who just report what is handed to them on a silver platter. With this administration, that isn't happening, so they are lost.

Hubbs is the only I give any credence to with "news" regarding the search.

Everyone else--ESPECIALLY TONY BASILLIO--is mediocre at best.

Why in the hell anyone posts what Basillio says on his radio show or writes in his blog is beyond me. He might have "sources" but they're awful and he RARELY vets anything, from what I can tell.

I've said it before and it bares mentioning again: He is the radio personality equivalent to a message board.

It's clearly just a bunch of opinion pieces with people throwing stuff at a wall and praying they get lucky. I've never seen anything like it.

You will know soon enough. Crying about reporters takes the drama to a new level.
I am hardly crying. We will know when we know. I just find it difficult to believe any of these guys, and credible reporting would pay dividends for whoever got the story out first reliably.

Im no journalist, but finding out what the Brooks family knows would be a solid start.

With this involving Gruden and ESPN I think it'll be a national media outlet that breaks this story if it ever happens.

Yes you have...almost 3 years ago.

I don't remember it being nearly this bad though as far as sourceless rumors and stories that just flat out sound stupid. Tracking planes was dumb, but rumors about kids touring schools and conversations with coach's families is just plain crazy.

"Lovie Smith on a plane, coming to Knoxville..."

Granted, it's definitely more wide-spread this time but that's because of the target. I doubt it would be this crazy if we were going after just Fisher or Stoops.

Gruden is literally one of (if not THE) the biggest HC candidates....anywhere, thus = media circus.

...not to mention the AD is shut down tighter than a drum.

I seem to remember the DC search last year being utterly ridiculous with multiple sources claiming a done deal had been made. This sounds awfully familiar to me.

Something had to have happened at the end of the DC search. There were just too many people saying Randy Shannon for it to have been a coincidence. There are still people that will swear by their sources on that one.

It's possible only a handful of people actually know what the "good stuff" is. And if none of them are talking, either on or off the record, what is a journalist supposed to do?

What "news" has Hubbs broken regarding this? That Dooley was fired? That UT is considering replacements? What else?

Hubbs is the most reputable of any of the media members covering the Vols, period.

Whether you like or dislike his information he has or has not brought to the table is immaterial. He vets everything he reports, unlike 95%+ of the Knoxville media.

He's impeccably methodical with what he says and/or reports, which is why I respect his, Fortenberry's, & Brice's info more than anyone else's....doesn't mean he's always right.

Maybe so, but the amount of people swearing up and down that it's a done deal is at least comparable.

You cant tell me that the Gruden camp is as airtight as the Hart camp allegedly is. Find out who is Deuce Gruden's best bud at college. Buy him a beer and hear a story. Corroborate that with what you hear from relatives. Cite them as sources and let them see their names or their names as just "sources" in the paper/on tv.

Corroborate some more (I dont want to give any stalkers on this board any ideas) and take it to Dave Hart directly for comment with the intention of running it if he does not give you an exclusive.

Information is power. Cannot believe media is not all over this thing as it is one of the stories of the year.

It would be easier if you started threads when they actually start being journalists. Until then assume they aren't.

Most of the hysteria is being driven by fhe internet anyway. 90% of this stuff is conjecture and fairy tales.

It was just an irrelevant TN name that popped in my head from TN rosters past, I even mispelled the first name; unfortunately many people still recognize BV's name. Everyone always asks me that since seemingly everyone remembers BV (Im not him).

Gotcha. I couldnt remember if it was a player or if it was a coach for UT many, many moons ago. Poor guy lived in the Holston Hills area of Knox and was a member of the cc there. This was back in the late 80s and he was a raging alchy. Not the belligerent kind but more of the "bless his heart" kind. He'd get drunk and pass out then pee on himself. Sober, he was great fun to talk to. When he got his drink on it the only conversations were "give me another". If you had based your name off him I was going to ask whatever happened to him (my guess is cirrhosis or something).
