I wanted to get one thread that had opinions of the list of coaches that we legitimately can get, since all the other threads are mostly naming just one coach. Obviously, you have to assume the Univ. will have a laundry list of them in order to be objective with their pool of names. Mine would be as follows:

1) Gruden
2) Petrino
3) Mullen
4) Strong
5) Patterson

In saying this, there are only 2 options IMO. If you cannot get Gruden (which seems to be understood at this point), go get Petrino and be done with it. JMO.

How about yours?

I don't think they'll go after Petrino. I'd put Patterson above Strong, for sure. Maybe even above Mullen.

Zero chance on Petrino and definitely not Mullen. Think we already how our next coach in Gruden but for arguements sake

Gruden
Del Rio
Strong
Patterson

Honestly cant think of a fifth guy I would want. Im sure there is more out there but no to Petrino, Mullen, Tubbs, Cut, Franklin.

Unrealistic top four:

1. Petersen
2. Gruden
3. Patterson
4. Pete Carroll

Coaches I think would come to Tennessee if offered, forming a top 5:

1. Charlie Strong
2. Larry Fedora
3. Al Golden
4. Gary Andersen
5. Dave Doeren/Mike Macintyre

Maybe you throw a Patterson or someone on top there, but I don't think he's leaving TCU. I also highly doubt Mullen leaves MSU. Cutcliffe wouldn't be bad, but I'd prefer to go with a guy who's had a lot of success at the mid-major level. It did take Cut five years to get Duke to a bowl, while a guy like Doeren is 19-4 at Northern Illinois (18-1 in his last 19). Butch Jones is also a candidate, I suppose.

My top 5 is:
Gruden
Patterson

Roman
Strong.

I really wish people would get over Dan Mullen. He is an okay coach that has managed to beat all the teams he should and played some better teams close. Basically, he is James Franklin, and James Franklin is basically just Derek Dooley with slightly more ability and massively smaller expectations.

So, if Mullen is even on the list of potential candidates, the listmaker should be shot.

Especially above Strong. Listing Mullen over Strong is the proverbial Volkswagen over a Ferrari.

If we don't get Gruden, Raheem Morris would make an interesting candidate.

Like I said, my list is really 2 candidates.. Gruden and Petrino. And those saying Petrino is not in the conversation are simply misinformed. Given his on the field track record, he will get a strong look over some of the other less glorified names.

In regards to Mullen, I think some of you are forgetting what kind of team MS ST was before he got there. He has turned that program around and yes, I understand that they have not beat a big time opponent yet. The fact that they are even in the convo of good teams and ranked this year is a minor miracle in itself.

They aren't in the convo of good teams, because they aren't a good team. That has been proven every time they have played a good team

Why?

Mullen has a slightly more established record at Miss State, than Strong has a Louisville. Miss State is also a tougher place to win at.

Mullen had a 9-4 season in his second year, with quality wins vs Florida and Michigan. Their four losses were all to top 12 teams.

Charlie Strong has had one great season as well, with a lot of close wins versus average teams. Highest quality win was in overtime versus a 7-2 Cincinnati team.

Not saying I'd prefer Mullen over Strong, or vice-verse. I'd just view both of them as great coordinators, who have become good coaches, but who lack much of a longer-term track record that would make them a safe hire.

I like both of them, but view them as more like 4th choices. Both could work out great, but both are also a risk.

I mostly agree on Mullen, but I see Petrino as an extreme long-shot. After all the problems at UT over the past few years with Lane Kiffin, Bruce Pearl, and even back to the Fulmer's lax-discipline days ("University of Thugs") --- I just don't see the AD taking a chance on such a blatant ethically questionable hire.

Gruden
Patterson
Golden
Strong
Smart (**Who I unfortunately expect Hart to go after first **)

Dark Horses: Jack Del Rio and Willie Taggert (but I suspect WT will end up at UK)

Are you really trying to pimp the 2010 Florida and Michigan teams as quality? Perhaps you should go back and research that. Might be easier to make the call between the two at that point.

Go out and get laid, kiddo.

Seriously, if you get that bent out of shape over a minor disagreement, then you don't have much perspective on life, and you should probably quit wasting so much time on internet message boards.

You also use the word "pimp" as a verb in serious conversation, which says that you are maybe .... what ... 15 years old?
