Looks like only 1 recruit from in state. Is this because the talent is so bad, or our recruiting is so good?

And that 1 is the number 1 recruit in the state. If your only gonna take 1 that would be a good 1 to take. 1.

We may not be done. Stone could end up here. There is also a chance we take an instate RB....

I look at it like this....if you look at the players instate.....alot of them have other offers...so I don't think it is an indication that the state has bad talent....Tennessee is just going after other players who they feel are better........

Just because UT only takes one player instate doesnt mean the talent is bad......

It is because of the latter. If we had stud 4 star OL up and down the line that were young, the coaches would probably be out of it for some of the Chaz Green, JaWuan James, John Cullen group and would be taking James Stone and hoping to get him back to the promise he showed junior year.

This year the staff is amazing (we will be lucky to get another full year of them all together) and more than that we have a lack of talent so there is lots of slots where there is no one great around who will be there for a while.

Exceptions are almost all Kiffin takes. Bryce Brown and Oku, (although pre injury I loved Toney Williams also) Janzen Jackson...not many guys you can look at and point to who would scare away a hot shot senior.

In the near future that will not be the case and we will be in the same boat as UF and Alabama and USC which is where we want to be, attracting stud talent to join stud talent...

Do you guys think this staff would have recruited Aaron Douglas?

yes. We needed a TE and he was one of the best in the country. He was ours anyway from the beginning. He had a lot of upside as a TE, but the staff realized he even had MORE potential as tackle. The guy is a future first round pick (if he keeps the weight up).

When you look at the recruits this coaching staff is after, they are nearly all ranked at the top of their respective positions. This isn't so much a case of TN not having talent as it is a case of the coaching staff pursuing (and in good position to get) some of the most elite prospects all over the country. I think you'll see more TN players recruited by the staff next year...

When you give a recruiting staff as good at UT has the budget they have to recruit, they won't let location stop them from going after the best of the best.

He was a stud in highschool i watched him all the time since i live in Maryville.

I'd rather get good players from out of state than decent players from instate. I think everyone would agree with that sentiment.

When Kiffin said he was building a fence around TN, he didn't mean we'd sign Oak Ridge's offense and Dandridge's defense. He meant he'd make the top players in the state that a) fit his system and b) have shown they're good enough to be possible stars in a difficult league like the SEC.

I'm sure we will miss out on a few TN players over the next few years, but I don't think anyone should question how this staff recruits. Period.

You still think Devrin Young is going to end up at ETSU???:) I havent seen you since you made that statement...that blew up in your face a few days later......

so what you are saying is that if Tennessee doesnt recruit you...your just "decent"

Now I agree with you that TN is getting the best of the best.....but that still doesnt mean if you dont get recruited or offered by TN you are just decent....I mean there is a kid in Memphis who plays QB that is up for National Player of the Year....yet he doesnt have a written offer from Tennessee......its just a matter of preference on UT's part...doesnt mean that the QB they offered will turn out to be better or is better......

I don’t think anyone is knocking good players here the state, there are some. However the numbers bear out that the state of Tennessee is NOT the place where SEC talent tends to be found.

I have an article coming out the first of the week that goes into this very subject. Just a couple of thoughts . . . Of all the current commitments (215) seven (7) are from the state of Tennessee.

TO be fair things like state population and the number of high school football programs affect these numbers. But if we use the state of Alabama for instance, it has 25% less population and yet 3.5 times the number of recruits.

You find a SEC recruit in Tennessee so far this year in 1 out of 885,000 people in TN. In AL that number is 1 in 186,000.

Some interesting thoughts to come. . .

I think a better way to look at it is how many TN kids sign d-1 scholly's? The SEC is not the only conference where big time football is played.....so while TN kids may not all go to SEC schools...when you look at the numbers and the population as a whole..TN ranks around the middle of the pack....If TN had the population as say California.....it would produce the same number of players

Here is the proof.....

I'm pretty sure Brunetti does have a written offer.
Plus, you know he doesn't fit our system as well as he does WVUs, and we've got guys who may not be better players, but fit our system better.

he doesnt have one from my understanding...it never came in.......he was visiting WVA.....and they were suppose to send it, but never did...

I'm not arguing your point...I agree with you....my point is that just because a player doesnt get an offer from UT that doesnt mean they arent good.....just doesnt fit what the vols are looking for....

the orginal point was that if UT doesnt offer, you arent good instate...and that is just not the case...also FWIW...even though they dont have offers...the MVP's of UT's football camp QB, RB, OL are all from TN.........now that tells me that TN kids can compete at a high level...but they arent viewed as highly by the staff at TN.....but they can play.........you dont get to be MVP of Tennessee's camp if you cant play..

Brunetti has a written offer from the Vols, Blur. It was mentioned after he committed to WVU. I'm 100% on this.

I was wondering the same thing about the talent in Tenn. There has to some major talent in Tenn with all the Schools that are here...We lost M. Brown to Ga last year. From what the BIG SHOW shows us there are guys in the leauge that played at schools that some have never heard of..Other schools like UTAH and Bosie are getting local talent and WINNING..I think that over a period of time players will start wanting to play at TENN since we have a new guy in charge!!!!!!!

Tn has 6 4* players according to Rivals this year... 4 of them are from Memphis.

Ga has 27 with most of them around ATL. SC has 13 and all of them are probably closer in driving distance to K'ville than Memphis is... plus UT has a shot at pulling the top 4.

If I'm not mistaken, parts of northern FL are a shorter drive to K'ville than Memphis.

My point is... where do you think they should spend their time?

Tennessee has one of the lowest number of blue chip recruits per capita in the southeast. Only Kentucky is routinely worse.

I talked to some of Barry's people directly...he was verbally offered but the written one never came.....from what I was told this week.
