Jeffy Gordon got the lucky dog pass 3 times at Indy (which helped him stay in the Chase) and Kyle Busch got it 5 times at Watkins Glen. I think this is a stupid rule and should be eliminated next season. Dale Jr. has gotten it a few times this year and I didn't like it. I think the drivers should have to earn their laps back, not have them given to them. What does everyone else think?

No lucky dogs consecutively. That should solve it. I do agree with a one lap award. But getting 5 in a row is a bit ridiculous.

But some may even argue that. People like it when it helps your driver, but not when it's your hated driver.

No win I guess

Agree completely.

They shouldn't have it at all, but since they do, they desperately need to alter it. A guy that's 3 or more laps down shouldn't get the free pass... as long as there are no cars 1 or 2 laps down, you can be as many as 10 down and as long as you get the cautions, come back and finish higher than cars that didn't have anything given to them all day. Kyle Busch spent almost 10 minutes in the GARAGE and still finished 9th yesterday.

I think they should do away with the lucky dog and go back to racing to the caution flag. It worked for 50+ years with no problems. The issue was with teammates letting each other get their laps back, but that is no different imo than teammates giving each other 5 cheap points.

I agree...and one thing more. Im totally against 1 owner having more than 1 car/driver in a race. This team stuff has done as much to damage fan following as restrictor plates. I say 1 owner, 1 driver, 1 car and let em race....sure its dangerous thats what made it popular. If it were easy anyone could do it.

I disagree on the one owner/one car thing for this reason. I think the multicar teams have made Nascar more competitive. The good young drivers can come in now and get in a top notch car immediately and win, where before they would have to toil in a low budget car for years and hope for a better opportunity, if they even got their shot at all. I'm afraid that if they went back to single car owners, they would go back to only having 4-5 guys who have a legitimate shot at winning. Just my :twocents:

BRING BACK RACING THE LEADER TO THE YELLOW!!!

I like Jeff Gordon, and it know it kept him in the chase, but I still don't like the Lucky dog. But NASCAR will never bring back racing to yellow because of safety, an acceptable bandaid would be the non-consecutive rule, and I would add that it can't be used in competition yellows.

I agree about the lucky dog should not being rewarded in consecutive times to the same person. Unfortunately Nascar keeps tweeking rules all the time and I am sure the race for the chase will change next year so it will find a way to include more drivers.

I am afraid that NASCAR is not concerned about "more drivers" unless their names are Gordon, Stewart, and Earnhardt.

NASCAR will do what they have to, to keep the marquee names in the Chase.

Nascar has already mentioned letting the top 12 (instead of the top 10) drivers in points into the Chase next year.

I just don't think they should have the lucky dog pass at all. They are giving them laps that they didn't earn and it has resulted in wins, top 5's, and top 10's. That is not racing.

Here are some lucky dog stats:

The name of the rule should be changed from "the Lucky Dog" to "The Rick Hendrick Rule"....They're always the ones that seem to come out smellin like a rose after they receive it

Probably so. Why not just let everybody in the chase :bs:. They already give everybody a provisional :shakehead: . There used to be a time when you actually had to earn your way in Nascar.:BANGHEAD2:
