The (many) indictments of Donald Trump

Even if nothing ever comes of the indictments, it is still a fact that on January 6, 2021, Donald Trump believed that his Vice President, Mike Pence, had the unilateral authority to overturn the outcome of their mutual defeat in the 2020 Presidential Election. That is such a stupid concept. It boggles the mind.

... and Trump also promoted the "alternate elector" scheme to the point that 16 people in Michigan signed certificates falsely claiming that Donald Trump had won the state of Michigan and that they were the duly appointed electors as a result of his victory. To this day, Trump continues to assert that there was nothing wrong with any of this. He is a loon.

It was open for interpretation, until made ceremonial in 2022....why was that change made. For this exact reason, to takeout the interpretation. It's the only thing the Dems have done I agree with. Now seeing as long as the electors specifically stated "if" in their scheme (reason electors fun PS are not being charged) then technically nothing was illegally done. PENCE could have rejected electors but never would have gotten unanimous consent to apply Trump's. Thus the catch...even the politico article we both reference refered to that loophole. And many lawyers interpreted it that way at the time.
No, it wasn't. You can not find anyone who wasn't working for Trump, who believes that the Vice President had the discretionary authority to decline to count the electoral college votes of his choosing. Nothing in the United States Constitution or Federal Election law allows for that. You are referring to a loophole in the 1887 Vote Count Act, which does not supersede the Constitution. If Al Gore had declined to count the electoral votes from Florida in 2001, there is no way in hell that any court would have sided with him, and rubber stamped such a blatant conflict of interest. It is only because this would have benefited a Republican, that you would argue otherwise. It's a ridiculous concept, which is completely antithetical to the principles of a democratic system of elections.

What does that have to do with the post that you replied to?

So you agree you don't have principles?

Well, I guess that's progress that you're admitting it.
My principles dictate that I recognize and use continua.

A lack of principles would be rooted in the "they are all equall" nonsense.

What election? I find it strange that the source doesn't reference that. Seems like an important distinction. Was it the general election, was it a local?

Seems suspect that it's omitted.

Then how did Nixon do it??? And why didn't have to changed to strictly ceremonial??? Because it was open to interpretation...Trump's problem was he didn't follow the loophole all the way...it wasn't possible without unanimous consent of the other electors...that's the loophole...

Anyone who views him as a folk hero has some deep rooted issues.
It was known by most in 2016 that he would be poison to this country. He has done nothing but prove those who were a tad more insightful correct. That is not going to end. As long as he has a zombie horde of worshipers who view him as the face and voice of the republican party, there is no posibility of lessoning the divide.
😂 🤡

The irony of course, is that Barr didn't find any evidence of fraud and communicated that to Trump.

Trump knew that he'd lost and continuing to try and overthrow the election is very literally why we're here.

You don't have a leg to stand on and you simply don't understand why. Fascinating.
Bill Barr is so entrenched in the system he might as well work for Biden. There is not a single investigation that will unearth anything that will actually enforce a law. Not one.

I remember when Trumpsters were deeply in love with Bill Barr. All he did was speak the truth and they ghosted him.

That was never challenged in court. There was no need to. Even Nixon said that it shouldn't serve as a precedent for future elections to follow. Kennedy had won the 1960 Presidential Election, regardless of what the outcome in Hawaii was. It wasn't important. You are placing way too much significance on that.

Trump's problem, is that the loophole in the 1887 Vote Count Act didn't supersede the United States Constitution. It wasn't possible at all, for Mike Pence to legally decline to count the electoral votes of his choosing, during the formal process of certification of the electoral college vote on January 6, 2021. Those electors had been legally chosen by their state legislatures, in accordance with the United States Constitution and Federal Election Commission law. Not that I expect you to ever admit it, but you are just wrong six ways to Sunday on this, but you will stubbornly persist, anyway.

If it had been Constitutional for a Vice President to decline to count the electoral votes of his choosing, then Al Gore would have declined to count the electoral votes from the state of Florida on January 6, 2001. Gore had tried every legal means possible to reverse George W. Bush's narrow victory. Gore would not have passed up an opportunity such as that, if it was legally viable.

Such a strategy would be completely inconsistent with a democratic system of elections.

The courts will decide...PA decided by not charging those electors ....there is no point in us going back and forth. Let the courts decide
