doesn’t seem like much interest around here. Looks like the Force Awakens. Lotta nostalgia for the original.can it fix the sequels?

The biggest problem with the Matrix series is that it was never intended to be a series. The original is a great self-containted movie. There was no need for a series. But everyone saw money and thus the 2 sequels were crapped out and it was obvious there was no story fully fleshed out.

I've never seen a sequel get so much hype and then in turn the finale of the trilogy get almost zero hype and reaction. I remember talking with people at work about Reloaded and how hype we were and then the week after it came out we talked and everyone had a very "Star Wars prequel" feel....like parts were cool but overall everyone was like ehhhh...something was off. But the theater was packed the first weekend when I went. Flastforward to that fall when Revolutions came out and I remember going with my wife on Friday night, the 7:00 showing and the theater was mostly empty. There was zero hype for it and people at work most didn't see it for a good while and everyone was very underwelmed.

If they were going this way I think they should have gone the Halloween route and ignored the sequels.

I remember between the original and Reloaded the Star Wars talk was being “this is the new SW for this generation”. I didn’t buy it then either.

I don’t think there was anything wrong with expanding the world but they over indulged in the FX instead of a coherent story.

I agree they should have just ignored the previous two and picked up this one like the intended sequel.

I rewatched The Matrix within the last year or so. It doesn't hold up very well.

I thought the preview looked good. I'll have to re-watch the first 3 again.

I was surprised it will be on HBO Max right away though. I figured it'd be a Theatre only release.

The Matrix is one of the best and most important movies in the history of film-making, but once the novelty of the world they built wore off and Neo became godlike, they haven't been able to keep my interest. I was so bored with 2 and I'm not even sure I finished 3.

I expect the movie to give an explanation how is Neo alive because this sequel is set after the terrible third Matrix movie.
I was told the 3 Matrix movie is terrible.

The 4th Matrix movie can be great if this sequel has a unique good story that stands on its own similar to Aliens and Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back ,and justifies why is Neo alive.

I don't disagree with you very much Newt, but I watched it a couple of weeks ago and to me, it still holds up magnificently. Same for the sequels. I for one am very excited about Resurrections.

Its all subjective. Give me Blade Runner or Mad Max universes all day every day over the Matrix.

Agreed, the original Matrix is a top 10 all-time movie, from just about every perspective. The sequels, not so much. All of them are based on Kabbalistic and/or Gnostic philosophy and ideas. I am curious about the fourth installment.

Also I’m curious why are we seeing the first movie shown in the background since that is very meta.

A sequel that stands on its own with a great story is what I want for the 4th Matrix movie similar to Aliens does stand on its own for the Alien movie series including multiple Xenomorphs in that movie.

Most likely the movie is going to have amazing action scenes.
