The media's general vibe about Tennessee most likely hiring Strong is that it is an "excellent hire"... And I get the feeling that they think it may be the best of the "Big 3" openings (UT, Arky, & Auburn)... Saying that while the Arky is great that it was a shock and they hired a proven winner but that he would naturally have growing pains in the SEC having only coached and recruited in the Midwest area... Auburn is solid, because he knows the program, but no big splash.
Brings me to think, if the general opinion outside of the board is that we made as solid a hire as the rest, or BETTER... Why is half the board freaking out?
Is it because you set unrealistic expectations with a NFL super bowl winner who's never coached in college? .. Or a guy who's already making 5+ Mil at a huge program in Oklahoma?
If you look at it realistically, you shouldn't be very dissapointed.. Of the Big 3 hires, Charlie Strong knows the area and has had proven Defenses and has won big basically everywhere he's been. This is the guy the players want, this is the guy that may turn recruits heads.
Get behind the guy if he's indeed announced, because it would probably be the biggest splash hire of the silly season.
