Just like the Dooley rule of clock runoff. The Rose Bowl finally acquiesced and so the playoff expansion can be moved up. Isn't that most Tennessee thing ever? This year we would be in. Next year we will probably be in rebuilding mode to some degree. I hope I am wrong and we find ourselves in contention next season.

I'm thinking we need to be ready for anywhere between 7-5 and 9-3 next year. While this year has been a tremendous step forward, we're not quite in a place where we can just recycle players like the Bama/Georgia/Ohio State's of the world.

And regression in overall record doesn't necessarily signal regression in talent/progress of the program--we're still building and putting pieces together and as we move forward there still will be bumps in the road. As long as we are seeing obvious improvement in play overall I think that's an excellent sign for things moving forward.

I would be willing to bet that it will be a long time before someone other than one of the top 4 seeded teams in a 12 team playoff wins the championship. So I don't care about making the playoffs as a 12 seed playing the 5 seed and if you are fortunate enough to win that game as the 12 seed you would get the 1 seed next. It really makes no sense. An 8 team playoff would have been enough, probably only 6.
With 12 teams, some of these games won't be worth watching.

It's not happening even in time for next year. While we might not be elite next year depending on what happens, I think we'll very good and certainly should make a 12 team playoff in '24.

How is the 12 team playoff plan on working? #1 and #2 get a bye week? Because my math shows 3 teams Left after the first 2 rounds of games. And if highest ranked teams get a bye. Then who gets the second round bye?
