I see numerous people pointing out how superior Mullen is when it comes to coaching as compared to Kirby.

Kirby Smart is 3-0 vs. Dan Mullen

2017: 31-3
2018: 36-17
2019: 24-17

If you want to count the days of each being a DC and OC, add a lot more losses for Mullen as his O at Florida/MSU beat Kirby’s D one time.

In terms of recruiting, it isn’t close. Mullen can’t recruit while Kirby is Top 5 in the country. That’s why there’s such a talent disparity.

Dan Mullen is also 5-19 against Top 25 teams.

Mullen is a mediocre coach that is riding off a half season of success with Dak Prescott.

I don’t think he beats us once as head coach at Florida. I think Kirby reels off a Spurrier/90s run against Mullen.

Kirby is Mullen/Florida’s daddy.

Pretty sure most everyone here said Florida would beat Georgia because Mullen is the better coach.

He’s not.
Dan Mullen is an average head football coach in my opinion. He has to have a quarterback like Dak Prescott for his offenses to really take off.

Rankings from 247

Georgia - 5* - 14 4* - 46

Alabama - 5* - 10 4* - 57

Florida - 5* - 1 4* - 38

TN. - 5* - 4 4* - 31

So really, the question is why aren’t you better Georgia. You’re the most talented team in the SEC

We’ve lost one SEC East game in three years. I’d say we’re doing fine. Bama is the last hurdle.

The real myth is that Smart is better than Richt. They look the same to me.

That mediocre coach just lost by 7 to your team that has 28 more 4/5* players. And you lost to SC, who I’m sure has much less than that.

Good Game, you lose

Stop while you’re behind. Again, Mullen has never beaten Smart.

Good game, you lose.

The real myth is that Smart is better than Richt. They look the same to me.

Richt was considered an elite coach from 2001-2007. Two SEC titles, two Sugar Bowl wins, and a #2 finish in 2007.

His early tenure wasn’t the problem. But Smart is good at kicking Florida’s ass and a much better recruiter so that gives him the edge.

It’s a little easier now than it was going against Spurrier and Meyer. Smart may end up better but right now that isn’t the case.

As someone who hates the gators I'm looking for every opportunity to think Mullen stinks but he hasn't really shown it yet. I'm hoping him and Kirby both end up being big disappointments.

Congrats on the win, and welcome to VN.

Kirby is a better recruiter than Mullen, it’s undeniable. Last Saturday, Kirby was the better coach also.

There’s still a gap between the two programs, that’s also undeniable.

All that said, until UGA finally breaks through and wins a national title, the overall perception of Kirby will be that of an elite recruiter with elite talent who consistently falls short on the biggest stage.

Participation trophies for getting to said stage don’t count. UGA needs that natty chip for Kirby to be validated as an elite coach given the talent he’s accumulated.

You have to give the guy credit for building a winner at Miss St. 69-46 with a 5-2 bowl record is pretty darn good considering it's Miss St.
