As an eighty-four year old fan, I am so looking forward to the 2024-25 basketball season and Coach Kim Caldwell's first team.
In 1974 the team was made up of Tennessee High School graduates who never played "full-court" before college. At the time, Tennessee girls's high-school basketball had 6 player teams made up of 3 guards and 3 forwards, who never crossed center court. That style changed to "normal" basketball in late 1970's thanks to Pat's influence.
Imagine Freshmen-Seniors having to go through "try-outs" to earn a spot on the team. to learn a new style of play, with a young first-year coach.

Number 52, third from left is Gail Dobson, who became a Teacher/Coach and school administrator who served in her home county in East Tennessee. The photo & Article by John Shearer appeared in The Chattanoogan News in November 2014. It is worth reading as we begin the next 50 years with 'Kim's first team". GO LADY VOLS!

I graduated from high school in 1974. I remember that 3 on 3 half court game.
It's the ultimate sign of being old. I remember my sister when she was about 15 or 16 coming to me when I was about 10 to ask me to guard her in the driveway basketball court. She said "I think I'm going to switch from defense to offense". So, she wanted to use her little brother to practice on dribbling shooting rebounding and scoring. Because, she had been playing on the defensive side of the three verses 3. LOL!

Okay, for you whippersnappers out there. It was real. Check this girl's state championship game out from Iowa in 1973 ...
