If his name isn't Gruden. Everyone on this site is so worked up about getting Gruden as the coach. What if he isn't? Does the new guy automatically get held to an unfair standard? I can hear it now: "We could have gotten Gruden, but we ended up with this guy!," "Fire the new guy and fire Dave Hart, he didn't get Gruden!";

Is Gruden the only name that would satisfy people? There are a lot of good names out there.

Now I would be as happy as anyone if Gruden is hired, but it seems like a lot of faith to put in a guy who hasn't coached in college for 20 years.

It won't bother me at all. No matter who Hart hires, we will be a better football team next year. I have always taken a wait and see approach with Gruden. Just not buying it until Hart makes the announcement.

Yes, I pity the next coach if he isn't Gruden. It will be Hart's fault for letting this grow if it turns out we didn't get him.

Just about any name that has been discussed would be a upgrade from what we had.. I'd settle for a solid coach.. Doesn't have to be a guy that hasn't coached in what 5 years now? Gruden would get the excitement up... Tennessee would have some buzz to it.. There are several others that could get the job done though...

I could care less who they hire...as long as...they win. Preferably 7-8 in the first season. These 5 win seasons are really starting to get old.

Believe it or not, the majority of the UT fans are NOT on Vol Nation. Most UT fans will be supportive of the new coach and the Tennessee Volunteers.

Meanwhile, a lot of the posters here will provide good entertainment for the rest of us if Gruden is not hired.

I agree with Burhead! If for some reason it doesn't work out, then I blame Hart and Cheek for the worst PR job in college football history....and thats an understatement!!!

Not really. I do think that Hart has an extremely fine line on who he hires. If he hires a coach with a losing record you are going to see this place have a meltdown. Although if they hire a competent coach then who cares? Do I think Gruden would be the homerun we need? Heck yeah. Am I going to still watch UT football if we hire Fisher/Golden/Mora? yeah. Would I like the Golden hire? Nope I think that Hart would be fired if he hires Golden.

I would settle for Mora jr if I had too

Actually it's the new coach for Auburn that's really screwed. Having to get that program back on top after a NC just two years ago and doing battle with Saban & Bama in state for recruits. Whoever takes that job better produce in two years or the pitchforks will be out.

Part of the reason I like Gruden, is due to his history/ties to the university and state of Tennessee. That aspect is important to me. I believe that is what helped to make Majors and Fulmer great leaders for UT!

The only people starting these rumors are idiots on sites like this. From what I can tell, no one in the AD has mentioned any name. If Hart came out and point blank said Gruden isn't coming from that moment on his life is a living hell.

It's better if he conducts his search on his own terms. He doesn't owe us fans anything. Whomever is hired, even Gruden, isn't going to fare too well next season. At Oregon, at UF, at Bama, at Mizzou plus UGA and USCe. 8-4, 7-5 at best next season.
