They supposedly changed some rules to make it more exciting...

But I don't care one way or the other. I like playing hockey an I like watching it in person, but other than that count me out.

Might be in the playoffs years to come? Where have you been?
The Predators made the playoffs the last season played.

I knew very little about hockey until moving to Nashville in late 2000. I went to my first Predators game end of the year in 2001.
It's a game you have to see in person to appreciate.

I hope to make it to several games this year.

:banghead: Since this is the only hockey thread going, does anybody out there go to any of the minor league games. (We lost our team in Asheville this year because the Gomers in charge of the Civic Center wouldn't give them a break on the rent.) Knoxville has a team in the same league called the Ice Bears. If anybody there is a minor league hockey fan, do they remember the brutal street brawls from 3 years ago between the Asheville Smioke and the Knoxville Speed when they were in the United Hockey League? Its a wonder somebody didn't get killed. They hated each other. Fights, fights, and more fights.

Here's a little bit of information for all the hockey fans on the board...

UT has a hockey team...and they are good! :D

www.icevols.com
--Founded in 1966, they are the oldest collegiate program in the south
--They are celebrating their 40th anniversary this season
--They are members of the American Collegiate Hockey Association, a group of of 300 non-varsity college hockey programs across the country.
--They compete against other SEC Schools like Florida, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt. (Auburn used to have a team, but they folded in the 80's)
--The Ice Vols have won 7 conference championships since 1980 (more than football, haha)
--They were the 1996 National Champions!!!

If you haven't checked out a game, I recommend it. They play at the Civic Coliseum downtown, and have an occasional game at the IceArium in West Knoxville. The South Carolina series this year is the same weekend at the UT/USC football game.

Philly :D being a flyers fan has never been better. I personally cant wait for the NHL, other than Vols football, Flyers hockey is the next best thing.

Yeah, Flyers will be loaded this year! They are my pick to win the Eastern Conference this year, and probably win in all.

The Western Conference should be a great race, lot of teams are really even. Detroit should drop, but will still be in the hunt, Nashville returns everybody AND adds Paul Kariya! :dance2: Calgary, Edmonton, and Los Angeles all signed tons of players and will be in it for the conference title as well. Unfortunatly, I think my Avalanche are royally scwewed

Every NHL season is a waste of ur time...All it is is a bunch of Russians beating the crap out of and slamming each others heads into the ice...What a sport

Oh yeah, I hope I didn't offend you with the Canada comment...

The last thing I want is for you to jump in your '73 Ford POS pickup with the primer finish and gunrack in the back window to hunt me down. I don't want you to have to go to the trouble

The college season IS here :dance2:

Georgia Tech and Vandy opened the 2005 season Friday with Tech knocking down the 'Dores 8-4.

Tennessee took on the Yellow Jackets Saturday night in Nashville to renew the oldest rivalry in southern hockey. The Ice Vols won a hard fought game 3-2. Tennessee took an early 2 goal lead after shorthanded and power play goals by Adam Bogren. The Vols couldn't stay out of the box and allowed Tech back in the game with goals mid-ways through the second and early in the 3rd. Tennessee answered with an Aaron Hartness' game winning goal at the 13:00 mark in the 3rd. Both goaltenders had fantastic games with Tech's Nick Rice stopping 35 of 38 shots; and Mark McHugh stopping 35 of 37 in his Tennessee debut.
