Tennessean:Andy Kelly flashback! #8 Starts
A little more on the story of the week...
"It was fairly obvious," Fulmer said of Crompton getting the start. "Probably fairly obvious to everybody."
Ainge will be available to play if needed against the Razorbacks, but there's no plan to get him into the game. Fulmer also said the only reason he waited to announce a starter was "to be fair to Erik."
"I think Jonathan's been a pretty cool customer about the whole thing," Fulmer said. "I was amazed at his calmness in the last ballgame. But this will be a bigger test for him as he goes into the hostile environment."
Crompton expects a bigger challenge this week against an Arkansas defense that's had all week to study his first big game on film.
"Arkansas is going to have a game plan for me now," Crompton said. "That's expected. But we are just going to have to go out there and execute."
Offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe said he expects nothing less from Crompton.
"If I read him right, he'll be excited about it and look forward to the challenge," Cutcliffe said. "He'll learn, and he's the kind of young man that I think likes challenges."
Tennessean: More Bits and Pieces
Austin Rogers might sit out the rest of the season and redshirt, Coach Phillip Fulmer said Thursday.
Rogers could be able to play at some point in the next two weeks, but the Vols strongly are considering keeping him out for the remainder of the year.
"I don't know if he'll be well enough to come back," Fulmer said. "Right now, we're looking at redshirting him."
LaMarcus Coker will be able to play on Saturday.
Montario Hardesty will start at tailback, but Coker is expected to be the first off the bench.
"He's had a great week of practice," Fulmer said. "We'll see in the game. The speed of the game is always different, but he hasn't missed a beat out here this week. He doesn't want to wear the (knee) brace, but he's going to wear the brace for a little while."
Marvin Mitchell will start at middle linebacker, but Fulmer said he still hopes to get Ellix Wilson into the game.
Fulmer said Wilson played well Saturday against LSU in relief of Mitchell, who suffered a shoulder sprain.
"I was really happy with what Ellix Wilson did in the game last week, so he'll get some more chances," Fulmer said.

"The truth of it is, when you watch them, theyre a big-play team," Fulmer said. "They run the ball effectively, but theyre going to get yards in chunks and theyre very capable of scoring quickly."
There have been Vols defenses allowed to say, "Go ahead and bring those running backs. We can stop them," with confident certainty. But this years isnt one of them.
"Were not dog-awful, but were not what we used to be," Chavis said. "Thats a fact."
The Razorbacks are easily the conferences best rushing team. They average 238.9 yards per game, which rates fourth nationally and is more than 70 yards per game better than any other SEC squad.
"If you werent having to play them," Vols offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe said, "its fun to watch a team run the football that well."
Darren McFadden averages 6.2 yards per carry and is rated by Fulmer, and nearly everyone else, as the best running back in the league.
"You might see a 2-yard gain, but by the time he gets the ball, it looks like hes going to go about 30 yards the way he hits the hole," UT cornerback Jonathan Wade said. "Thats what you look for in a running back, and they have one.
"They have two, actually."
"Its going to be that way every week," Chavis said. "Youd better approach it that way or youre going to get embarrassed. When you start looking around at whats happening in the league, really its a league now where three, four, five players can make a big difference."
There is no quick fix. But in the short term, Tennessee must rely again this week on former Tyner standout Demonte Bolden at defensive tackle. Other young players, such as Walter Fisher and Dan Williams, need to be counted on in a rotation that hasnt been nearly as deep as coaches would like.
Talk is over. Now Go Kick Some Butt!!!
