The Nov. 1st CF Playoff Rankings release

The only factor is the money, NCAA wants bama, uga, Ohio state, and clemson.
Tennessee has one of the biggest fan bases in the country. If it's only about money, Tennessee belongs with those teams you mentioned. Swap out Clemson with Tennessee. It's a new era college football world, we belong with the elite on and off the field. Tennessee will bring in as much as all those teams or more.

I heard a Vegas analyst give us an 18 percent chance of winning the national title--less than that of bama, georgia, michigan, osu.

To get in the playoff, we will have to either 1) Beat Georgia--our preference, of course, or 2) if we lose to Georgia (which I don't expect), but if we do, then Georgia must win the SEC title game--beating, probably, Alabama. If Bama wins the SEC title, beating Georgia, then you'd have 3 SEC teams with 1 loss. We'd have beaten bama, bama beat georgia, georgia beat us. Which two are going to get picked? Not being in the SEC Title game will work against us. May not kill us--but could. Also, if Clemson goes undefeated, they are going to be in the playoff--even though the ACC is easy compared to the brutal schedule we will have played.

We could conceivably face the toughest schedule in modern college schedule. We've already beaten florida, lsu and bama--three traditional SEC powers. We have georgia coming up soon. If we win that game, we could face bama for a second time in the SEC title game--and, if we get into the playoff, would face two other top 5 teams.

We have it tough every year playing 3 teams that are top 5/10 programs. I'm not sure anybody in the country can say that. It makes it very hard for us to win the Big Taco. But.....

This is the same level of conspiracy thinking as, "The SEC tells the refs to always throw the games Bama and UGa's way."

We took one step away from the crazy house last night, maybe we can take another step today. :) Or maybe it will have to wait until Nov 1st.

Go Vols!

It's wild to be saying this but going forward style points matter. If we win out it doesn't, but if the SEC has 3 one loss teams the style points come into play. Did you play down to lesser competition? Almost have a disaster and trip up against Missouri or USCjr? Tennessee needs to put on a show every week and be the most fun team in college football. At this point everything we can do to strengthen our argument, we need to do. Show no mercy.

will have Tennessee rated very highly, and likely number one. The factors that they take into account won't be biased by pre-season rankings.

I doubt we'll be #1. First off, we have to beat Kentucky, which isn't a given. But beyond that, Georgia likely still above us unless Florida pulls off a miracle in TWLOCP. Ohio State also probably undefeated still, but they do play Iowa and Penn State so some outside possibility they might lose, but I doubt it. Clemson also has a rather unexpected opportunity to pass us if they win big against Syracuse.

If we beat Kentucky, I think we end up #3.

Clemson can EAD. They haven’t played anyone and won’t play anyone . FSU isn’t good, NC State isn’t good, Syracuse will show that they are overrated (although watch the media blow them up bc of their broadcast journalism school that half of ESPN went to), they won’t play anyone good in Charlotte, the ACC is a complete joke. I’d take us by 10-12 points over Clemson tomorrow.

UK will also be ranked as they have a bye week and then the game at UT. If UT is 8 and 0 with 5 top 25 wins they should be #1 when the playoff rankings are released. To think UT and UGA could be #1 vs #2 when they play is just hard to believe. Either way GBO!!
I’ve got a buddy that has tickets to that game that is sitting on a gold mine basically. If tn and ga handle business that will be a Christmas gift come early the amount they likely fetch

Tennessee will be number 1

They will be 8-0
They will have 5 wins vs ranked teams
Their SOS will be pretty good
Their AP and Coaches rank will be great
Their computer rankings will be great
They would have passed the “eye test”

A ranking which started right now (without Tennessee having to start from unranked and move up week to week) would probably have Tennessee #1……….ala Playoff ranking

Week 8 Mich & Georgia off
Week 9
Mich plays Mich ST & Georgia plays Florida……..while Tennessee plays ranked KY.

Week 8 Ohio ST plays Iowa, Week 9 they play P-ST……….Ohio ST is the only Team Tennessee has to worry about. Only because they would have played 6 power 5 teams and coming off playing P-ST.

1. Tennessee
2. OSU
3. Georgia

Honestly, what makes you say this? Only one of those schools has a notably larger alumni base than us, and I'd argue tv ratings for TN would be much higher than Clemson (small) or Bama (been there). This conspiracy theory crap is so tired.

This is done by a committee. They don’t have to use statistics or even common sense. They all vote on teams for whatever reasons they’re told to vote on and I imagine there’s no possible way they’re influenced by a little extra OSU cash.

Who has a better case for #1? Lay it out game by game and make me see it. Right now, I can't see who has beaten an LSU Florida & Alabama. We are clearly the top dog on the block. Only past recruiting rankings would make some say otherwise. But that tune shall soon change too...

Tennessee has to be the best team in the nation to win it's division. And that has been the case for several decades. We are certainly on that path.
