The offensive system needs to stay the same.

keep chaney and leave the offense alone. it was one of the best in the country.

My biggest fear is that we will get the defense to be atleast ok next year and the offense will be horrible b/c we switch to a spread style. The offense wasn't the problem and we have the players to run it.

I really don't like this hire. I was hoping for a defensive coach.

But I hold onto the hope that when B kelly was at cincy they ran a spread and ND is a smash mouth football team. I hope Jones adjust to us and doesn't make us adjust to him and his big east ways lol.

Besides knowing he caoched at cincy idk much about him can someone fill me in?

Losing Bray, Hunter, CP, ZR, Rivera and linemen may contribute to the offense taking a small step down. Maybe.

Just so everyone is clear, we were running a version of the spread over the past two years. Most of the NFL has aspects of the spread in their offense. What do you think NE and Denver have been doing?

This is true very true but like a lot of analyst have said a duel threat qb is almost needed now.

The spread is the best way off the bottom. Ask Vandy. Petterman maybe CBJ salvation.

Ask Alabama how they liked the aTm spread this year. It can work if done properly.

Our offense will be 150% different next year. We are completely pulling the roots up and starting over with this coach......

Which isn't the worst thing in the world after back to back 5-7 seasons

You must have a loose definition of the spread. The spread, as I understand, involves the QB running the ball, or having the option to run, on many plays. That's a big part of it. Florida runs the spread; Tebow killed everybody with his running and run feints turned to passes, quick screens, etc. Sumlin runs the spread. Any notion that we ran a version of the spread with Bray is absurd. Manning most assuredly does not run the spread.

Also, our offense was only good last year because we had the best offensive line and best WR group that we've had in years (and our receivers weren't really all that great--good but not great). This year we will not have those receivers, the OL will not be as good--and our offense will NOT be good. A pro style offense with a QB who cannot run and a weak/inexperienced group of receivers has NO chance of being good, I'm sorry to say. A spread would have a chance, because option attacks put a defense on its heels and because running QBs always bedevil defenses (see Texas A&M, see RGIII, see SEC title game 2001).

Isnt a spread offense led by a duel threat QB. We know TYler is Pro only.

The Big 12 is dominated by spread offenses, and they throw it 50-60 times a game. But the spread is all things
to all people.

Our offense this year was part of the reason the D was so bad. 40 yard pass attemps on 3rd and 1. No ability to sustain long drives and keep the D off the field. Chaney is not a good play caller. He just benefited this year from having two freaks at wide receiver. Spread or pro we have still got to run the ball more consistently.

in his read option, there are lots of quick routes, intermediate stuff, etc. Not much of a downfield passing game.

Yes in most cases a Dual Threat QB runs the spread offense. But if you look at the word "spread". Most plays are run out of shotgun formation in which you are able to "spread" your players out more. We ran quite a bit of our offense out of the shotgun. A lot of the read option, but instead of running we threw out of it. But, I am just an Xbox coach lol so I am not the most qualified individual to be talking about football formations. :)

I don't think the offense will be considerably different. We rarely lined up in I-form or power formations this year.

Unless Butch makes changes to the offense, it will be pure shotgun, lots of zone-read (option-read).

No sir you are wrong, we had the hardest schedule in the NCAA and had the best offensive attack! If Wilcox had stayed put we would still have dd as head c! Chaney needs to stay we won't upgrade from him! But clean house on D and spl teams!
