At least twice for me. Not to mention random episodes now and then. The show died, unfortunately, when Steve Carell left.
I really like the Office, and tho Michael made for some great laughs, I thought the show had a better quality to it when he left. Michael being a boss and continuing to be a boss is not at all believable and that always irked me. By the time he left, the show was well into its run and getting stale, but I think it would have been a better overall show if it started with Andy. It's a great ensemble cast and you don't need a star to take on 70% of the show's burden. I want more Kevin, Gabe, Stanley, Creed, Phyllis, and Toby. And I don't mean this as any disrespect to Carrell. He was great, I blame the writing. MS drove his car into the lake because GPS told him? It's just too dumb to find it funny.
Hmm, really? That's an unusual take. I haven't met many people who share that opinion.
I thought once Michael left, the show got a little sitcom-ish. I was almost waiting for an episode where they dubbed in studio laughter at the punchlines. The Jim-Pam marriage troubles and the Dwight-Angela storyline were the only ones I found to be even the slightest bit compelling. Everything else just felt like typical, feel-good nonsense being spoon fed to the audience.
As far as Michael being farfetched as a boss, that was kind of the point. Him being a man-child that was completely out of touch with reality is what created a lot of the awkwardness which was the hallmark of the show from the beginning. Plus his employees and his bosses constantly covered for his inadequacies while still being able to do productive and profitable work for the company. Not to mention, I've seen a bunch of morons in middle management and honestly, Michael isn't that much worse than some of them. So I never really questioned him being able to stay employed as long as he did. He was at least personable and endearing when it came to selling paper.
Either way, great show and one of my favorite comedies.
