In 1902 against Clemson, A. H. “Toots” Douglas, captain of the team, kicked from his five to the Clemson twenty, and the ball bounced to the Clemson five, a boot of 100 yards on the 110-yard field. (This feat is also reported as having been a punt from his goal line to Clemson’s two-yard line, a distance of 108 yards).

Dale Carter came to Tennessee to be a playmaker, and he did just that. In two seasons with the Vols, He recorded 108 tackles and earned All-American status each year and garnered national recognition as a sticky defensive back and an explosive kick return man.

Eddie Brown earned All-American status in 1973 thanks to his awareness as a defensive back and his illusive punt return ability. He led the Vols in both categories his senior year.

Brown collected five picks during his 1973 senior campaign at Tennessee for 105 return yards to lead the team.
