Sweet 16, Sweet 16, Sweet 16....do it with me now!!!

1. If you still have any question whether JRich can shoulder the scoring load next season, what game have you been watching? Stone cold stud. He is the most versatile and complete player on the team.

2. Stokes has 61 pts, 45 rebs, 18-32 FGs, & 24-28 FTs. He is just eating rebounds and winning games at the FT line by helping us to keep the leads we build by hitting them.

3. Jeronne Maymon is playing his best basketball of the season. He is realizing he doesn't have to do it all, and is contributing all over.

4. Barton found his shot again, but he could stand to be a tad more judicious with his shot selection. He played great tonight. His steal on the first possession set the tone defensively.

5. This team has learned to play at any pace while still controlling the tempo offensively. There were a few times tonight when they allowed Mercer to force them into some poor shot selection by settling for long jumpers, but for the most part, we attacked and got the ball into the paint which led to the FT discrepancy.

6. Speaking of fouls, talk about a tale of two halves. The first half, the officials let them play outside the paint, the second half, they called every touch foul within 25 feet of the basket. That's tough to adjust to, but we managed amd took advantage ourselves by continuing to work the defense off the dribble and in the paint.

7. We are getting very little in terms of offense from the bench, and that is somewhat concerning. We need to get 10 ppg from DT, Moore, and Reese.

8. You could see the emotion on Martin's face in postgame interview. He showed plenty of emotion on the sidelines, and was very animated. You can tell he has lived for this moment. So proud for him.

9. Very classy of Mercer to salute their fans, even in an emotional defeat. Very classy.

10. I said it in another thread, but if nothing else was gained from last year's NIT loss to Mercer than an appreciation for taking every opponent seriously despite the name on the front of the jersey, it was well worth it. This is the kind of basketball you hope to be playing in March, and I think they learned a valuable lesson in humility in that defeat.

Go Vols! Beat Meatchicken!

Agree on all points...thanks for the analysis.

The saving grace in our lack of bench scoring is our conditioning. The starters are able to carry the load and go the distance.

Agree. I was concerned about our 3rd game in 5 days, but we never wore down. Impressive. Props to Nicodemus Christopher.

I feel like our bench is asked to contribute and put in solid minutes when they go in. Armani Moore needs to be a presence defensively more often. Good write up chris.

LET'S DO IT AGAINST MICHIGAN

Love to see us attacking the rim and not just jacking 3s against the zone.

We are playing really really well.

Every year I watch teams peak at tourney time and I wish it could be us just one time. After all these years we finally peaked at the right time. Of course I've had to work during all except the Iowa game. Let's keep it going and maybe it will be a fantasy season and we will end up advancing beyond our wildest dreams.

We peaked at the right time when we almost made the final four with JP Prince and company.

Truth! I guess Mercer's coach b!tched loud enough at the end of the half to get some fouls called on us in the second half.

Letting the action go unchecked and uncalled is definitely to our advantage.

If Reese and Moore could contribute some points while playing solid defense, that would be beneficial as well as Ndiaye getting some minutes to spell Stokes and Maymon.

It was great to see Pops score tonight.

I think we will have to play better than we did today to beat Michigan. Tennessee's is going to have to step it up on defense to win. I think Mercer scored on the first eight possessions in the second half. That is not going to get it done next week.

J Rich is a Baller, He could very well average 20-25 ppg next year...if not more...if Stokes comes back and CCM continues doing what he has been doing the last couple weeks, we will be a force...my sky is falling attitude about next year looks to be premature...just let Stokes come back :)

Nic deserves a major shoutout. We showed no signs of fatigue and in fact looked to be the better conditioned team.

I don't know about that...Barton and Stokes both looked winded when Mercer got within 11-12 points...but then they(Mercer) got tired also. I mean, it was to be expected bc of the 3 games in 5 days...but even then, they did seem the better conditioned team.

I've been thinking the same thing. He's done a helluva a job with the team. Third game since Wednesday, and we didn't slow down at any point. Hopefully he's around for a long time.

I hope we have someone who remembers that UM slaughter in the "Mike Hamilton Special" 3 years ago. I hope that loss provides the same fire.

I do have to say Mercer had a good showing with the fans. They were loud in the first half but we shut them up in the second. I even had one fan turn around with about one minute to go and tell me Mercer was still the better team lol

I guess Tennessee would have had 10 busloads of students if UT had of paid for all but $25 of the whole trip too! That was a nice gesture on Mercers part though. We better show up in Indy because you know there will be a lot of that puke blue & awful red there!
GO VOLS!!!!

Saw this on a Mercer board, LOL

Yea we beat duke now we should beat the vols by double digits. They have no chance against our talent. We will man handle Stokes & Maymon in the paint. This game will be a walk in the park. No worries. As long as we show up we will win.

Supposedly the UTAD is releasing information about student tickets to the game(s) this weekend. I would absolutely make the drive as a student if I could get a ticket below $100
